270!!!!

I weighed into day at 270 lbs. This is VERY exciting mostly because it puts me ahead of schedule for this month and also because I can’t WAIT to be in the 260’s (wow I never thought I’d say that lol) the 260’s have sort of eluded me for a while now. Even when I was working out with a trainer and doing a couple hours of cardio a day I still couldn’t get out of the 270’s…. maybe tomorrow! Or at least by next week.

woooo hooooo!!

Generic Acomplia- An easier way to recover from the weight gain

Excessive weight gain directly or indirectly leads to the cardiovascular diseases,  diabetes, or increase in the blood pressure. The main problem faced by the person with the excessive body weight is of obesity. The occurrence of the obesity adds up to the health problems. Even the sex life of the person with the excessive weight gain problem is found to be completely devastated. Problems like erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation are very much common among the fat men. Weight loss is the need of the time as large number of the people face the problem of the excessive weight gain.

Generic Acomplia helps the obese man to lose the weight. The effects of the generic Acomplia can be retained faster if you follow the strict diet regime and regular exercise regime along with drug dosage. The main reason why the person suffers with the excessive weight gain is the lack of the physical ability and excessive intake of the fat rich food items. Excessive weight gain is also sometimes a hereditary problem. Whatever may be the reason behind the excessive weight gain, generic Acomplia pills are very efficient to treat it. One thing a person must remember while taking generic Acomplia pills is that take its dosage regularly without missing it otherwise you may fail to get the results.

Generic Acomplia is the medication that contains the Rimonabant as the key ingredient that works efficiently to control the excessive weight gain. Generic Acomplia works on the endocannabiniod system that controls the body weight, appetite, and lipid and glucose metabolism. The person feels hungry mainly due to the due to the signals send by CB1 receptor from the brain to the Endocannabiniod system. Generic Acomplia stops the signals send by the CB1 receptor to reach the endocannabiniod system. Generic Acomplia reduces the urge to eat and thus the person eats less due to which less food items enters the body and the excessive weight gain is controlled.

My Work Outs Are Definitely NOT Performance Enhanced

I did a cardio only work out at the Fremont YMCA Wellness Center yesterday.  I walked 45 minutes on the treadmill and added five minutes on the hand petal bike.  I burned 464 calories and walked 2.31 miles on the treadmill, a 3.08 miles per hour pace.

However mediocre my accomplishments are, they are definitely not enhanced by steroids or any other chemicals.  Apparently Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz are on the famous Major League Baseball tested positive for steroids in 2003 list. Yes, the same Ortiz and Ramirez who were important cogs in the Boston Red Sox overcoming the Bambino Curse to win the 2004 World Series.

Now, I do not think the Red Sox need to give back the Series trophy.  I assume that many of their opponents had players that also showed up as testing positive in 2003.  I am ambivalent as far as should players named as testing positive have asterisks beside their names in record books.  I think baseball purists want to be able to compare 2009 to 1909 and say it is a level playing field, when steroids or not it certainly isn’t.  If you want to talk about performance enhancement, simply compare the equipment of 2009 with that of 1909-balls, bats, gloves, and playing fields.

I know I have posted about this in the past, but many games are now played at night, and there were no night games when the likes of Cobb and Ruth played.  Of course that was to the old-timers advantage.  Air travel vs. train travel should cause for asterisks in comparing different eras.  So should nutrition and exercise and salaries that allow players to focus on baseball year round, not having to find another job in the off season.  In 1909 it was assumed that a pitcher would pitch a complete game, even if the game went into extra innings.  In 2009 it is assumed that a pitcher will not pitch a complete game. Different eras, different circumstances, different styles of play can’t be logically compared. Compare Barry Bonds with Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa, not Hank Aaron or Babe Ruth.  Don’t compare Roger Clemens with Bob Feller or Christy Mathewson.  And A-Rod shouldn’t be compared with an Ernie Banks or Brooks Robinson.

Should players who tested positive for drugs be banned from the Baseball Hall of Fame?  Given my argument about other performance enhancers, I don’t think that should be used as an argument, though it most definitely is by hall of fame voters.  Perhaps this is a black mark when it comes to character, but if character was really a serious issue, how was Ty Cobb ever selected? To me, if Cobb is enshrined, Shoeless Joe Jackson should be too.  And no, Jackson and Pete Rose did not commit the same sin. Jackson was guilty of poor judgment, and Rose was guilty of gambling on baseball games. Neither is guilty of being a racist psychopath like Cobb. Anyway, there are already plenty of shady characters in the hall, so what difference would a few more make.

That the substances are banned means the players using them are cheaters.  That is a good point, but to say that the steroid users are the only players in sports who cheat is more than laughable.  So cheating shouldn’t bring asterisks or bans to the juicers. And here is where you might want to call me a hypocrite, because I do believe in stiff penalties for users and abusers, I do believe in the asterisks by records, and I do believe that players who test positive for steroids should never even see their name on a hall of fame ballot-in any sport.

Why? Because there are terrible health risks involved in the use of steroids, and major league players are role models for our youth.

Of course than the issue that would need to be addressed is why players felt the need to take the banned substances to begin with. High salaries? TV? Fans expectations?  Owner expectations?  It seems like this is a house of cards built on a sandy low tide beach.

Heidi Klum is a Robot

As I was watching a Lifetime movie this Sunday, I was inundated with at least 80 commercials for the new season of “Project Runway.”   I LOVE this show–can’t get enough–but as I was pondering this season’s new talent, something came to me.  Heidi Klum cannot be human. First and foremost, has anyone ever seen a bad picture of this woman? In this age of hyperactive, ravenous media, we see all sorts of celebrities caught in bad makeup, no makeup, compromising positions, etc. I defy you to bring out the bad Heidi picture. They don’t exist.

Secondly, her career is rockin’. Everything she touches turns to gold.  She has a TV show, her own blackberry cover, and a jewelry line.  I drag my ass into work every day and think I’ve done something.

Also, she manages to produce one beautiful, well dressed, well-coiffed child every two years or so.  With Seal.  SEAL!!!  Seal had me at “Kiss from a Rose.”   Upon completion of giving birth to said child, Heidi is exquisite.  Indeed, runway ready.  Her midsection looks like that of a highly trained triathlete.  Since my last child was born, over two years ago, mind you, my belly stays swathed in over-sized T-shirts, mostly because it resembles a deflated inner tube.

Even at her lavish, wildly expensive Halloween parties, the girl looks good in Halloween makeup.  I’m letting you be the judge on this one, but come on–nobody is this perfect.  Jealous?  Sure I am.  If you’re not, it’s because you’re a man!

11 Weeks

 What a week!

Let’s see I did good with the food choices and exercise and then Friday came… I ate unhealthy and drank lots but… when I was at the bars all of my friends that I hadn’t seen in about 2 months couldn’t stop telling me how good I look and that they could tell I had dropped some major poundage! So I was pretty excited and happy!

On Sunday my mom and grandma came to visit me and let me tell you up until last night I ate like a freaking pig so today I am going to go with a very light dinner and work out and I just already know that the scale won’t be very kind to me tomorrow. But it was a fabulous weekend!

On Saturday I want to be at 165lb so this week will be interesting (aka working out and making extremely healthy food choices) and rewarding! I was reading a blog and she is in the 150’s for the first time in a long time and to tell you the truth I can’t wait for the day to come when I am in the 150’s so… I don’t plan on going anywhere and I don’t plan on anyone to visit me so I need to work out and eat healthy so I can get there ASAP.

I just feel so good about myself now but I know I will feel even better on Saturday!!!!!

Sculpting With Yoga

Yoga has always been known for creating the synchrony and balance between the mind and body. Not only does it create a sense of well-being but also makes the body supple and flexible. But the buzzword these days seems to be “yoga sculpt” which has become quite popular and has been known to bring about significant changes in the body.

We all desire to have a more slender and toned body, not forgetting the much sought after “strong and ripped core” There surely are many ways out there to achieve the same goal. But the added advantage of building strength and endurance in the muscles makes Yoga Sculpt the favorite choice for most people and even celebrities these days.

So what is Yoga Sculpt? It is a perfect fusion of yoga, strength training and core strengthening exercises. With the help of free weights and using yoga postures exercises like bicep curls, glute work and ab crunches are performed in a heated condition (a heated room/studio preferably) which makes the muscles to easily bend, tone and sculpt. I personally practice yoga sculpt 4 to 5 times a week at CorepowerYoga and feel energized and pumped the entire day. Burning nearly 500 to 600 calories, getting a good and satisfying workout, and sweating heavily in just one hour helps me save time. This is perfect for people who have a time crunch and want most out of the time spent.

This also seems like a perfect exercise for people who love group fitness classes. To see amazing bodies and motivated people around you, keeps you boosted continuously to push a little harder than you think you can. It also helps in realizing your inner strength and the miracles you are capable of creating in your life. Personally to me it has been life transforming and I have grown and blossomed every single day of my life ever since I started practicing yoga.

I would highly recommend anyone and everyone to find out about a yoga/yoga sculpt class near you and pay a visit and try it out to see if it is for someone like you. I am very sure you will not be disappointed!

iPhone App of the Week - Lose It!

This week’s app is near and dear to my heart because it has helped myself and my loved ones to get healthier and lose weight.  If you haven’t figured it out from the title, Lose It is an application dedicated to helping people get healthy and lose weight.  It is a nutrition, calorie and exercise tracker that can help you stay on track when trying to cut back.  There are quite a few apps in the app store but Lose It is number one and it’s in that spot for a reason.  Lose it helps you set attainable goals and track your progress toward those goals. So what keeps Lose It in the top spot in the area of Healthcare and Fitness?

Easy Breezy Setup

Setup couldn’t be easier.  When you open the application it will ask you what your current weight is and what your goal weight is.  After that you can enter how quickly you would like to lose the weight.  This is where Lose It starts to stand out from the rest of the weight loss apps.  Lose It gives you have the option to lose weight at a rate of anywhere from 1/2 pound per week to 2 pounds per week.  The fact that it doesn’t go over that 2 pound limit is smart because losing more than 2 pounds per week over a long period of time is very difficult, unhealthy and not a reasonable goal.  A nice extra here is that Lose It will give you an estimated date to reach your goal weight according to the weight loss pace you chose.  After entering the information the app calculates exactly how many calories you can take in everyday to meet your goal, this is your daily calorie budget and it’s the thing you are going to keep track of most when using this application.

It Remembers Everything

With Lose It you are able to enter all of the food you are consuming throughout the day.  When entering this information you have the option to choose from a list of brand name foods from supermarkets or restaurants or you can enter the information manually.  If you choose the manual route, Lose It will remember that food and it’s nutrition facts so that if you eat it again you can access it quickly.  You can also create your own recipes and include calorie content for the recipe as a whole.  Lose It also remembers what meals you ate so if, for example, you eat a bowl of Raisin Bran, a glass of non-fat milk and a grapefruit for breakfast every morning, when you enter the information you have to option to use previous meals, just pick the breakfast meal from the day before and you’re set to go.  You only have to enter all of the separate food items once.

Graphs, Graphs, Graphs

Graphs are a great way to monitor your progress toward your end goal.  The opening screen of Lose It gives you a visual representation of how many calories you’ve eaten so far in the day, as well as how many calories you have remaining.  In the “Goals” section you can view your goal weight, your daily calorie budget and a graph that displays a line to show your goal weight and a line to show your actual weight.  It’s very satisfying watching your actual weight move closer to your goal weight, the graphs provide another motivator to stay on track.

Exercise

If you want to lose weight and be successful diet is not enough, you have to include some sort of exercise into your daily routine.  Lose It helps you track your exercise as well.  With over 100 different preset activities you’ll be hard pressed to find something that’s not on the list, if you do come across an activity that isn’t on the list you have the option to enter it manually (and yes that information gets remembered as well).

Calories aren’t the only things it tracks

While the default setting for Lose It is to track just calories you can adjust the settings to track nutrients as well.  This makes the app even more useful for those who want to keep track of things other than or in addition to calories.  Other items tracked include: total fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrates, fiber, sugar and protein.

The Best Part

There are so many great feature this application has to offer but the best part about it?  It’s FREE!  Yep, that’s right, you get all of the above mentioned features in a compact, fast, smooth running, stable application for free.  Really, if you’re trying to get healthy and lose weight you don’t have anything to lose by putting this app on your phone.  It’s helped me lose 20 pounds in 2.5 months, how can it help you?

Are you using this application?  Do you love it?  Hate it?  Share with us in the comments.

4 months later

So the big question has to be… Have I continued or have I fallen by the wayside and gone back to my old ways?

Well I am pleased to say that I have continued, that this really has been a lifestyle change for me which has proven easy to carry on with. I have even had a couple of holidays and have amazed myself by weighing the same when I returned as when I went (definately never known in the past) and this has been achieved without me needing to think about it. I trust my body and know when I need to eat and when I need to exercise.

And with regards to my weight I am still on a downward trend. Albeit v v slowly I am still getting rid of excess weight (half a stone in the past 4 months) which is great as I am getting closer and closer to the ideal of a BMI off 22 (my current BMI being 22.75). Buying new clothes has been a pleasure and I felt so much more confident this year at the pool.

And finally my eldest son has told me I look slim (hoorah)!

Pick the Best Fruits and Vegetables Next Time You Hit the Aisles

One of the reasons why Italians eat so well is that every last one of them believes it is their fundamental right to walk out of the market with the very best ingredients. They won’t settle for a wrinkled eggplant, a withering artichoke, or an apple that tastes like Styrofoam. And neither should you. Problem is, finding the best, ripest, most jaw-droppingly tasty fruits and vegetables isn’t as intuitive as you might think. It’s a task that requires the attention of all five senses in order to pick up on the ultimate ripeness and utmost quality.

Regardless of what you’re shopping for, start with these three rules.

1. Beautiful doesn’t mean delicious. Sub-par conventional produce is bred to look waxy, glistening, and perfectly symmetrical, while prime fruits and vegetables are often irregularly shaped, with slight visual imperfections outside but a world of flavor waiting inside.

2. Use your hands. You can learn more about a fruit or vegetable from picking it up than you can from staring it down. Heavy, sturdy fruits and vegetables with taut skin and peels are telltale signs of freshness.

3. Shop with the seasons. Sure, sometimes you just need a tomato, but there are three persuasive reasons to shop in season: It’s cheaper, it’s better, and it’s better for you.

Choose wisely and you’ll bring home the best fruits and vegetables every time, just like an Italian grandma.

The delicious versatility of brown rice pasta...

Have you discovered brown rice pasta yet? I did a few months ago and it was yet another one of those culinary life change moments. It is now my go to in a pinch or for those moments when I get home starving and nearly shacking from lack of food when even the paper towl looks moderatly appetizing. You know those moments when you are too hungry to cook, especially to plan something healthy and good. During those times I boil some organic brown rice pasta fusilli from trader joes ($1.99! bargain!) and toss it with some eggs and of-course some olive oil!  I dont know if this sounds weird for some but to me its pure comfort food. It takes me back to my childhood days when all i would it is “macaroni and eggs” day in and day out. This is a healthier version of my childhood favorite and it is sooo good (i am enjoying it right now) You should try it some time.

But I’ve strayed from the point I wanted to make which is you should go and get some organic brown rice pasta asap for your pantry. As we all know pasta is incredibly versatile, however the wheat gluten is a real problem for a lot of people. Plus, we avoid wheat/gluten products on our eating plan and we happily enjoy a ton of gluten free foods.

Like I said the possibilities are endless with this pasta. Toss it with fresh diced tomatoes (hmm summer tomatoes from the garden would be incredible!) a little salt and plenty of good olive oil or add in some of your favorite veggies like asparagus and baby broccoli and you’ve got a bowl of nutrition! I would love to find more ways of enjoying this nutritious treat. BTW a serving has 3 grams of fiber and 4 grams of protein and is perfectly gluten free.

Hot New Diet Plan

I’ve been attempting to lose weight for many years. I’ve found heaps of diets that work, but they are usually too hard to follow and I end up messing up and abandoning them. You know how sometimes you’ll have a perfect food day but just really find yourself craving chocolate in the evening? That is constantly happening to me!

Eventually I came to the conclusion that these programs were all very similar, they just appeared to vary. All these diet plans were about eating less than usual. Of course, I was successfull while sticking to them but that was the hard part. So anyways I’ve been searching for ages for a diet that made it easier to eat less than I normally do, but without having to skip the goodies like nights out and birthday cake. I’ve been searching for years, but I really think I have found it this time.

Its just that I’m still doubting a little. I’m hoping some of you guys can investigate it a little, and see if you think it looks like it has potential. It seems very promising. Also its very cheap, so I’m seriously thinking about trying it out.. Like, in my head I find myself thinking, why not? Its extremely inexpensive, you could spend more on a single month’s gym membership. Just going round and round in my brain is the thought…just get it? just get it? just get it? Im still not sure but I reckon I’m keen to try it out.

I really shouldnt waffle so much. Go have a look at it and tell me what you think, if you were me, what would you do? Here is a link to the website I was reading about it on – Slim Fast Diet Plan.

If I end up giving it a go, I’ll share my results

My Struggle

I’d like to share something personal today. When I started this blog, I wasn’t sure how much I’d want to share about my personal and emotional struggles with food, but I was inspired today by Kristen– who shared a very personal story of her own recently. You never know who else might be struggling with the same issues, and I hope that my story might make others who feel the same hopelessness and isolation, feel a little less alone.

*Please note: If you have an eating disorder, and know that reading about symptoms of an eating disorder might trigger unwanted behavior, please avoid reading any further. I promise I will discuss a more pleasant subject matter in my next post!

Today I’d like to talk about Binge Eating. No, not those little splurges that we all experience now and then. The actual eating disorder, which is characterized by uncontrollable, mindless eating. According to the National Institutes of Health, 2 percent of all U.S. adults suffer from compulsive eating. That makes the binge eating disorder more common than bullemia or anorexia! Unlike other eating disorders, which mostly occur among women, binge eating also affects a number of men. Binge eating usually begins in late adolescence or early adulthood, often after a major diet. But most people don’t seek help until much later when weight gain from their binge eating is causing health problems.

Behavioral symptoms of Binge Eating Disorder include:

  • Inability to stop eating or control what you’re eating
  • Rapidly eating large amounts of food
  • Eating even when you’re full
  • Hiding or stockpiling food to eat later in secret
  • Eating normally around others, but gorging when you’re alone
  • Eating continuously throughout the day, with no planned mealtime

Emotional Symptoms of Binge Eating Disorder include:

  • Feeling tension that is only relieved by eating
  • Embarrassment over how much you’re eating
  • Feeling numb while bingeing—like you’re not really there or you’re on auto-pilot.
  • Never feeling satisfied, no matter how much you eat
  • Feeling guilty, disgusted, or depressed after overeating
  • Desperation to control weight and eating habits
The difference between binge eating disorder and bulimia

Binge eating disorder is similar to bulimia in that both eating disorders involve consuming massive amounts of food in a short time period. But unlike bulimics, binge eaters DO NOT regularly try to purge or work off the extra calories consumed. People with binge eating disorder may occasionally try to fast or restrict calories, but many have given up all dieting efforts due to a long history of repeated failure.

There are many factors that may contribute to developing a binge eating disorder. Social pressure to be thin can add to the shame binge eaters feel and fuel their emotional eating. Emotional issues, such as depression, low self-esteem, loneliness, and body dissatisfaction are also involved in compulsive overeating. People with binge eating disorder may also have trouble with impulse control and managing and expressing their feelings.

I found this description online from helpguide.org, and I couldn’t describe this disorder better myself:

People with binge eating disorder suffer from this psychological food addiction. Like the alcoholic that can’t say no to a drink, they can’t say no to food. Often, their binge eating is triggered by a depressed or anxious mood, but they may also overeat when they’re tense, lonely, or bored. They eat to feed their feelings, rather than their bodies.

The problem is that emotional eating doesn’t solve anything. It may be comforting for a brief moment, but then reality sets back in, along with regret and self-loathing. Emotional eating also leads to problems of its own—including weight gain and obesity.

Unfortunately, weight gain only reinforces compulsive eating. It’s not that people with binge eating disorder don’t care about their bodies; they agonize over their ballooning weight. But the worse they feel about themselves and their appearance, the more they use food to cope. It becomes a vicious cycle: eating to feel better, feeling even worse, and then turning back to food for relief.

People with binge eating disorder are embarrassed and ashamed of their eating habits, so they often try to hide their symptoms and eat in secret. Many binge eaters are overweight or obese, but some are of normal weight.

I often make light of my eating disorder with friends, holding back from eating certain “trigger foods” by calling them my own personal form of “crack.” My close friends know I’m a “crack-addict.” However, I don’t let them know how serious my food addiction can be. Even now, I do not feel comfortable truly sharing my binging behaviors here– even with total strangers! It’s an embarrassing disorder, especially considering it’s just FOOD that I’m addicted to! Doesn’t that sound so silly? What I have come to realize, though, is that it’s not just food that I’m addicted to– it’s the behavior of secret-eating and compulsive eating. I get a “buzz” from eating things I know I shouldn’t. It’s like my own form of rebellion! I’ve also realized that I’m not alone. I think many more people have binge eating disorders, without even realizing it. It’s not until you have lived with the disorder for a while until you learn to recognize the symptoms.

Now, I don’t want those of you without this disorder to think that you all of the sudden have a problem either! Let me repeat: pigging out every now and then on junk food DOES NOT mean you have an eating disorder! That means your NORMAL and give into temptation every now and then! And that’s fine! I’m talking about compulsive, out-of-control eating– eating to the point you are uncomfortably full, hiding it, and are feeling constantly overwhelmed with thoughts of food. Typically, many dieters become victims to this disorder, so let me warn you now: do not fall victim to drastic diets! I believe years of crazy dieting is how I developed my own disorder. I have been unhappy with my body image for years now (thanks to many years of dancing) and I finally became a disordered eater after trying every fad diet on the planet.

There is a happy ending to this story. I do believe that disordered eating can be managed (although, like an alcoholic, I will always have to be careful). Focusing on a moderate, healthy diet is the first step in the right direction. You must learn to eat for health, rather than weight loss. Overcoming binge eating disorder also involves getting emotional eating under control. Eating right and listening to your body is an essential step in stopping binge eating. Other strategies that help include practicing relaxation techniques, staying connected to family and friends, and making time for things you enjoy as part of your daily schedule.

Not everyone can deal with an eating disorder on their own. For some, it’s important to seek professional support and treatment. There are support groups, medications and plenty of health professionals out there who can offer help. I’ve listed some resources below that may be helpful:

To Eat or Not to Eat, THAT is the question

I’m trying to attain a BMI of 24.9 so I can rest a little easier knowing I’m at less risk for the various unhappy consequences of being overweight.    The doctor didn’t seem concerned last time I talked to him about this, and now I’m only about 13 pounds from the goal.

This calorie counter at About.com is answering some of the questions I’ve wondered about for some time such as how many calories you need just to maintain your current weight = basal metabolic rate.   For me it’s about 2000 per day, more with more  excersize.

Although that article recommends eating 500 calories less to lose weight I DO NOT agree and think people generally fall off of diets because they are making them too painful.     If, for example, you shave off 100 calories a day from your basal metabolic burn (or excersize another 10 minutes or so), you’ll lose weight over time.  It’ll obviously take longer at 100 calorie deficit per day, but the point is that you are probably a lot more likely to stick to an “easy” diet than a hard one.   More importantly if you can’t shave off a measly 100 calories a day you really need to question what you expect out a harsher diet, which is only going to work if you KEEP OFF THE WEIGHT which means invoke long term lifestyle changes.  100 calories is simply forsaking ONE Tablespoon of oil, a couple pats of butter, a single slice of bread).

Everybody is different but I think a good approach is to start by experimenting with long term lifestyle changes in terms of diet and excersize while keeping track of your weight on a daily basis (yes it’ll fluctuate but it’s good to have a lot of data!).     Your first goal is to find out comfortable ways for you to maintain your weight or lose slightly – sort of a benchmark of the life you’ll be living for the long haul.   When you find that comfortable balance of excersize and enjoyable eating simply shave off 100 calories per day until you hit your desired weight.  If you are inspired to go for more do that, but just focus on the long term healthy lifestyle and not the weight loss part.  DO FOCUS on weight gain, which means you probably miscalculated what you can afford to eat.    I’ve even toyed with the idea of weighing myself every morning when I get up and if I weight MORE than the day before I cannot eat more than 1000 calories that day.    Sticking to that plan will guarantee weight loss, but it’s more severe than I think I need as I’m making progress now with modest reduction in calories and increase in excersize.

Eating healthy can be more enjoyable if you  savor things, eat smaller portions, add fruits and vegetables rather than sweets and carbs)   You do NOT  need to make radical changes but you do need to stick to your guns.    A couple friends of mine have knocked off substantial weight and both did it mostly by simply sticking to their plans which were to limit calorie intake and get modest excersize.    Fancy gimmicks are not your answer – calories and excersize define the whole show so figure out what’s up with your metabolism…. and go baby go !

Work Off Your Weight at the Office

Putting in extra hours at the job can help you stack the dollars, but it can also cause you to pack on some unwanted stomach fat. Sitting at a desk all day can also have an effect on your butt. Try these easy adjustments, so you can work a 9 to 5 without gaining 10 to 20.

1. Stand and Deliver:- Get an adjustable-height workstation so you can stand for part of the day. Your posture will improve, and you’ll burn a third more calories.

2. Dial “C” for Calorie:- Get a headset and walk while you take calls. An extra 500 steps a day burns 25 extra calories–in a year, you could drop two pounds without changing your diet.

3. Schedule Snacks:- A survey found that 75 percent of workers eat lunch at their desks while working, at least two to three times per week. Step away from work and enjoy your food. If you’re aware of what you eat, you’ll be less likely to nibble all day.

4. Go Green:- Fill your mug with green tea. People who drank oolong tea fortified with green tea extract every day for three months lose 2.4 more pounds than people who drank plain oolong tea. Antioxidants found in green tea, may stimulate the body to burn calories and decrease fat.

5. Put a Lid on it:- Keep candy in an opaque dish. It was found that workers dipped into chocolates 71 percent more often when they were in transparent containers. Or switch to hard candies: They’re lower in calories than bonbons, and they last longer.

6. Place Your Bets:- Strike up a weight-loss competition with your coworkers. Who lose the most wins a prize. Sometimes it pays to lose.

Berries On Sale!

If you are wondering why I’ve been eating berries like crazy, I live near a Sobey’s and until Thursday midnight this week all berries are cheap cheap cheap!  3 containers for $5 – strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries!  I’ve made up 3 salads already, almost eating one a day (meaning one salad made up of a container of each berry LOL).  My bf has been helping me eat them…with chocolate whipped cream .

Check out a Sobey’s near you!

FYI: You don’t have to buy 3 at once to get the deal.  I buy one container and it’s $1.66 each!

Top 5 Forgotten Superfoods (Five)

The next “food” is last but not least. It is a food I mentioned before. Number five on my list is the egg. You can read my blog on June 19, 2009 “The Yolk is no Joke” to review the health benefits. But eggs have so much more to offer…

Use them as part of your weight loss strategy:
http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=55767
“Studies show if you eat eggs at breakfast, you may eat fewer calories during the day and lose weight without significantly affecting cholesterol levels,” says Elizabeth Ward, MS, RD.

Paint, decorate or hunt for them:
Who says you have to wait ‘til Easter? There are loads of animals to create and masterpieces to make, http://www.canadaegg.ca/bins/play_page.asp?cid=156-12-71&lang=1.

Add shine to your hair: Hair’s the recipe to wash your hair with eggs.
http://www.ayushveda.com/magazine/things-you-can-do-to-make-your-hair-shine/. “The first recipe you can use to make your dull looks shine requires that you raid your refrigerator until you find two medium eggs and a quarter glass of milk. After you have finished blending the eggs and milk together, you should pour the mixture over your hair. Use your fingertips to work the egg/milk mix into your scalp. Cover your head with a shower cap, or wrap your hair in a towel and allow it to soak in the protein from the eggs and the calcium from the milk for five to ten minutes. Shampoo and condition your hair just like you normally would.”

Toss them at your next picnic:
I said “toss” no throwing, hard boiled eggs work nicely, do not try sneaking uncooked eggs into the bag and make sure to avoid hitting any cars!

Use them as science experiments: Here are just a few, http://www.everythingesl.net/lessons/egg_experiments.php and then use the cartons for projects; I myself have made a caterpillar or two but you may want to read about The 5 things you can do with egg cartons, http://www2.scholastic.com/browse/article.jsp?id=3747155.

Don’t Let Stress Pack on the Pounds

When you’re under stress — whether from job worries, financial pressure or family issues — it’s easy to bury yourself in a pint of ice cream or bag of chips. But on top of the extra calories you’re wolfing down, other changes are taking place in your body that encourage your body to pack on pounds under stress.

How Your Body Reacts to Stress

When we’re stressed, the body releases hormones including adrenalin and cortisol. It’s part of the ancient “fight or flight” response. While adrenalin gives you an energy boost, cortisol’s job is to replenish the body after the stress has passed — it increases your appetite so you eat more. But if the stress continues, cortisol levels remain elevated and your appetite level remains in high gear. And with it the pounds pile on as you eat more to satisfy your hunger.

But it’s not just hunger — it’s what you hunger for under stress that causes the domino effect. Under stress, you crave carbs — fuel for your muscles under stress. To get the sugar from your bloodstream to your muscles, the body produces insulin. But high levels of insulin and sugar can lead the body to store fat — often the belly fat that has been linked to diabetes and heart disease.

You may even get caught in a vicious stress-eating cycle based on habit, too. You’re stressed, you reach for the high-carb foods and feel comforted so you do it again anytime you feel stressed — even if you don’t feel hungry.

A recent study also found that stress unlocks fat cells so they grow in both size and number, thanks to a chain reaction started by molecules produced in your body under stress.

So with all these body reactions working against us, is weight gain inevitable in today’s stressful world? Sorry, you’ll have to find another excuse for that spare tire. You can combat stress and weight gain.

Stress-Busting Steps to Take Control of Your Weight

1. Manage stress with exercise. Stress needs to be managed, not just for your waistline but for your overall health. Regular exercise helps reduce stress hormones and counters their negative effects. Studies have found exercise acts as an antidepressant, reduces anxiety, and helps people sleep better. It also controls insulin and sugar levels. And of course, we know exercise helps burn calories, build muscle and lose weight.

2. Eat right. Aim for six small meals throughout the day rather than three large meals. This will help keep blood sugar levels even, which will slow down insulin production and reduce cortisol levels to keep your appetite and weight in check. When hunger is calling, skip the candy bars and chips and go for filling, high-fiber foods like oatmeal, whole wheat bread, apples or pears.

3. Get your sleep. When you don’t get enough sleep, cortisol levels increase along with your appetite. Try to get seven to eight hours of sleep each night.

4. Relax. Find some activities that make you feel calm, whether you choose yoga, meditation, reading or a nature walk. Relaxation, like exercise, counters the effects of stress.

5. Replenish your vitamins. Many studies have shown that stress zaps your stores of important nutrients such as B complex and C vitamin, along with the minerals magnesium and zinc. One way to make sure you’re getting balanced nutrition is with Relìv Classic® or Relìv Now® nutritional supplements.

6. Watch your calories but don’t UNDER do it. Eating too few calories actually increases your body’s stress level and encourages it to burn fewer calories by slowing metabolism. Keep calories at an optimum level by substituting one meal each day with a Relìv Slimplicity® shake and eating two healthy, balanced meals along with low-calorie snacks during the day. Add Slimplicity Accelerator capsules to keep your appetite under control and metabolism in high gear so you can lose weight the healthy, no-stress way!

diet, diet

I’ve been holding on to my diet so far and it’s been two weeks next Tuesday. It’s the noted “2-weeks crisis” though and I have to be careful about my every move. One slip can mean the end to a successful diet. I have to be really careful and think it over whenever I feel any carvings. I really have to scan whatever emotion I get and label it so I can make sure it’s non to ruin my diet. It’s hard and not the most fun but it’s showing results and today I was at my lowest at 94,4 kilos which means I’ve lost 4,4 kilos in nearly two weeks and because of my situation that’s a fairly reasonable loss.

So right now diet is key and I put a lot of effort into it. I don’t work out to much but in lack of access to a gym that’s not so strange. Sure, you can do the job at home, but I’m not the type. See, I like my gym and the equipment and everything. I like getting pumped up and then leave when I’ve done my stuff. You have to get more creative doing resistance training at home, especially when you’re like me pretty strong in some muscles but not able to so some exercises because of the extra weight. As well, the weather is not very reliable and as it happens the weather is an important factor for me to get out there doing something.

I go on walks or ride my bicycle almost every day though, and my goal is to do some sort of weight training 3 times a week. At least to start with. Week after week I’ll evaluate my scheme and see if there’s anything I should change in regard to foods or exercise. So I’ll consider my plan on a weekly basis.

The difference this time is that I feel so much more calm and relaxed. I don’t get carried away by interrupting feelings just like that. I’m more at ease and able to make sound decisions. This far at least. But it’s still hard. It doesn’t mean I’ve already made it. I still have to work hard, but now at least I know HOW to work hard. And this gives me hope to finish my 463-days challenge in time.

Feeling ok

I am feeling better, emotionally.  My food is back on track – kind of.  I did have fish and chips for lunch yesterday, but, I had a vegetarian stir fry for dinner and that was the sum total of my food for yesterday.

Gotta say, the Golden Fleece hotel in Melton has quickly become a favorite dining place.  The food is really nice and the staff are excellent. It does beat all the other places in that town. 10/10 I reckon.

My leg feels a lot better this morning.  It is not 100%, but, it is better than it was yesterday and I am hoping that by Tuesday I will be able to do my deliveries with ease.

I have decided that instead of doing the whole walk in one lot, I will do half on Tuesday and the other half on Wednesday.

It has been so very frustrating not being able to walk and I know that my depression levels were badly affected by the lack of exercise.

Emotionally I am in a much better place today.  Much better.  ;0)

Top 5 Weight-Loss Foods

(Here ’s the secret list of the TOP 5 FOODS every skinny chic should have in their kitchen at all times)
Since this is the age of instant gratification, ie, twitter, facebook, text message, BBM – who has time to figure out the BEST foods to eat that will promote FAST weight loss?

Who has the time? I will tell you who… ME! Laura, The Body Transformation Expert (rather, YOUR body transformation expert.)

Without fail, at each and every Running Camp/Boot Camp/Nutrition Seminar/Grocery Shopping Tour/Dinner with friends/Meeting with my accountant – I get asked the same question:  Just TELL me exactly what I should  eat  to lose weight. NO ONE, or very few people want to hear the philosophy behind it so that they can make it happen on their own. “Just give me a list!” (I still tell them the background anyway. I ‘m used to being tuned out at this point.)

So here ’s the list of the TOP 5 FOODS every skinny chic should have in their kitchen at all times:

1) Beans

Forget the song you used to sing as a child “beans, beans,  good for your heart…”   What makes the bean a superfood is that it’s high in fiber, it’s a complex carbohydrate, and is loaded with protein. Having high concentration of each of these in one beautiful food literally makes it one of your best choices when trying to eat to lose weight. Simply adding beans to an otherwise boring meal will keep you fuller longer (fiber), feed your precious long and lean muscles (protein), improve  taste and promote healthy weight loss!

BUY IT LIKE THIS: Canned, be sure to get “no salt added.”  Normal sodium content should be around 40mgs.  Excellent types: Kidney, Garbanzo, Black, Soy, Pinto.
COOK IT LIKE THIS: There is little to no prep with canned beans. Straight out of the can and put right on top of food or simply warm them up for a few seconds and you are good to go.

2) Barley

Each meal should contain 50% vegetables, 25% lean protein and 25% whole-grain carbohydrate. Barley is better choice than even  brown rice or brown pasta because it is has one of the highest amounts of fiber than most of its counterparts. Fiber, quite simply helps metabolize fat (need I say more?)  Watch what I had to say about barley in this **video**.

BUY IT LIKE THIS: Found in the aisle of pastas and rice. Appears like un-cooked rice.
COOK IT LIKE THIS:  Prepare it just like rice –  in water, boil until soft. Can also be used as breakfast in place of oatmeal, in stews, sprinkle on salads or as a substitute for any recipe that calls for rice.

3) Kale

The makeup of a healthy women’s diet should consist of 6-8 servings of vegetables per day. The darker the veggie, the higher the concentration of anti-aging, anti-cancer, and anti-fat components it will contain. Kale is jam packed with calcium (who knew?) tons of other vitamins/minerals  and FIBER. Skinny bitches eat tons of fiber! I cannot make this any clearer for you! Seek it out at every meal. The more foods you add to your diet that are high in fiber (veggies, whole grains, beans, legumes) the faster the other crap will fall by the waist side (pun intended.)

BUY IT LIKE THIS: Found in the green leafy vegetable section. Looks like  dark green lettuce.
COOK IT LIKE THIS: Use in place of lettuce anwhere –  uncooked, in salads, sandwiches, or use in place of bread or wrap in your favorite lunchtime sandwich. Also, steam like spinach or sauté in light garlic and oil.

4) OATMEAL

This little gem is a complex carbohydrate that is high in fiber. Because of its make-up you will be fuller longer, satiated,  leaving you awake and alleart well into the morning. Be sure to pair it with a protein topping to maximize the benefits. Watch this *video *where I tell you WHY you need to combine protein and carbs in order to get a six pack.

BUY IT LIKE THIS: In a canister in the cereal aisle, instant/quick oats are just as good as the regular. Avoid the fancy versions with added stuff (raisins, sugar, berries.)  Just get “plain oat meal” add your own toppings and save TONS of calories/sugar/salt.
COOK IT LIKE THIS: SUPER EASY! Instant oats takes 1 minute in the microwave. Take a canister/bowel/spoon to work and eat as a mid morning snack with fresh fruit or nuts on top.

5) MIXED UNSALTED NUTS/SEEDS/BERRIES

Protein in muscle food! NO you won’t get bulging muscles from eating them, duh.  They are packed with the good kind of fat which won’t clog your arteries,  but will leave you satiated, improve your mood, and make you more alert.  TONS of anti aging/anti cancer/anti heart disease/ant diabetic properties. Reach for nuts instead of simple starchy carbs )like crackers or pretzels) and you will INSTANTLY feel a boost. The next time you get to a meal you will be preparted to eat an appropriate amount becuase you won’t have “crashed and burned” from a alternative sugary snack.

BUY IT LIKE THIS: If you can’t find  a container of premixed unsalted nuts , make a mix yourself by buying a few small bags of pumpkin seeds, almonds , walnuts, flax seeds, cashews, dried cranberries, pecans, raisins,  etc.
COOK IT LIKE THIS:   Pre separate into serving size baggies at the time you are creating your mix. This is an easy grab ‘n go snack AND helps you avoid eating 3-4 servings in one sitting. Keep them in your desk, in your purse, in your cabinet at home.

To sum it up, most of you are not out there eating cheeseburgers and French fries every night. You are most likely a big step below that. I say “below” because each level down is a step cleaner on a scale of healthy eating. You should constantly arm your refrigerator with the cleanest, most un-processed, as close to the way it came out of the ground or tree as possible. Beans, Barley, and Kale are 3 foods that are tops in their food group categories when it comes to weight loss.

The Benefits of Eating Slowly

We eat to live. But however important eating is, people tend to take mealtimes for granted because of their busy lifestyles. With deadlines to beat and meetings to attend, many are used to getting things done in a hurry.

However, eating is not something that should be rushed because it leads to stressful, unhealthy living.

Nutrition and fitness expert Marc David, founder and director of the Institute for the Psychology of Eating, points out that Americans tend to eat under a state of stress and anxiety. You could be eating the healthiest food available but you won’t necessarily be digesting and assimilating it properly because eating under stress puts your body in the opposite condition of where it should be in order to digest and assimilate food.

Eating under stress causes dramatic changes in your body’s metabolism, including:

  • Slower nutrient absorption
  • Excretion of nutrients, particularly water soluble vitamins, macrominerals and microminerals
  • Spike in blood cholesterol
  • Increased food sensitivity
  • Decreased gut flora population
  • Heartburn
  • Increase in cortisol and insulin

The hormones cortisol and insulin track each other. When cortisol increases, insulin decreases. The two hormones signal your body to store fat and stop building muscle, effectively causing weight gain.

The simple act of taking time to eat a meal can have a profound effect on your health. Here are the reasons why you should start eating slower:

  1. Weight loss – It takes about 20 minutes for your brain to realize that your stomach is full. David explains that if you eat too fast, your brain will often interpret that missed experience of nuances and pleasure in taste and aroma as hunger, which will lead to you eating more. If you eat a big meal but don’t pay attention to it and just devour it, you’ll notice that your belly feels full but your mouth still feels hungry. Eating slowly will give you time to realize that you’re full and signal you to stop on time.
  2. Relaxation – Ever wonder why Europeans, who consume more wine and fat in their diet, manage to stay slimmer than Americans? That’s because they take their time while eating and treat meals as a celebration. They shut down work and take two-hour lunches. Eating with friends and family helps lower stress and allows people to relax and enjoy food as a gastronomic pleasure.
  3. Better digestion – Digestion starts in your mouth; the more work you do there, the less work your stomach has to put in to effectively digest your food. Eating slower means chewing your food properly, which helps you break down your food better.
  4. Breaking free from the fast food culture and fast-paced lifestyle – Americans are crazy about all things fast – fast cars, fast computers, fast mobile phones, and fast food, which unfortunately, is a fast route towards obesity. Break free from the on-the-go lifestyle that is dehumanizing America, making people unhealthy, stressed out and unhappy. You deserve better.

Eating is not just something to do but something to experience. The simple act of eating slower will lead to a healthier and happier you.

Hypnosis for Weight Loss?

Hypnosis or hypnotherapy is becoming an increasingly popular treatment for many mental conditions such as depression, anxiety, addictions and phobias. It’s claimed hypnosis can help you quit smoking, or get over your fear of just about anything.

There are also many skeptics of hypnosis. Just last night, I watched The Chaser’s War On Everything here in Australia. One skit was about a self proclaimed hypnotherapist in the US (Steve something? Can’t remember the name), who claimed he could help people get over things like bad breath and smelly feet through his hypnosis CDs. He also charged up to $50,000 a session. I can see why the Chaser took the mikey out of this guy – he was obviously a scam artist, and there are many out there. But are they just giving the other, real hypnotherapists a bad name?

I personally have been seeing a psychologist who specialises in hypnotherapy since the start of this year. I sought this help to deal with depression. I’m not a fan of artificial drugs to deal with a mental condition, so I decided to try something new. Many people are extremely skeptical about hypnotherapy, probably because of dodgy people like the guy I mentioned earlier. Many people see hypnosis as a “magic trick” where someone swings a pendulum in front of you and makes you cluck like a chicken. The real point of hypnosis though is to enter a trance-like or sleep-like state, where you can directly access your subconscious. You access this state through meditation.

I have found hypnosis very helpful. Within two months I have gone from being classified as “severely depressed” to “mildly depressed” and almost completely better.

My psychologist tells me hypnotherapy is also helpful for weight loss. You can change those subconscious behaviours to get rid of your cravings for bad food, and to instill a desire to exercise and eat well. It helps overcome the root causes of why we gain weight in the first place, which 9 times out of 10 is to do with our emotions.

Its common in society and the diet industry to be told you just need to eat less and exercise more if you want to lose weight. But, if that is true, why is the majority of the western world overweight? I have a theory about this which is a little complex but basically, I think the reason is that we are so far removed from our core selves and what it is to be a person. We live in a constantly changing society. We no longer hunt and gather for our own food, we now twitter on our iPhones and drive through a fast food joint in our car to get some manufactured, packaged thing which vaguely resembles real food. I think many people struggle with a removal from their core being, their true self. There is so much franticness in this world, a constant need to be better, bigger, more successful, have more possessions. Want, want, want. Everything is upsized. Is there any surprise we are also becoming upsized?

Anyway, I’m getting off-topic here. The point is, hypnotherapy aims to appeal to our subconscious and therefore is claimed to be a useful tool in weightloss. The Gabriel Method which I wrote about earlier uses a meditation CD which you listen to as you are going to sleep – i.e. entering your trance or “SMART” state. The messages on the CD appeal to your subconscious.

There is also another book (which I have not read yet – not sure if I will) by Paul McKenna called “I can make you thin” which is very similar in its principles to the Gabriel Method. Paul McKenna apparently helps many celebrities and even british royals to lose weight. He also has uses a CD with his weight loss book, which I understand you listen to first thing in the morning. From what I understand, his approach is pretty basic but uses common sense many people have forgotten in our hectic modern lives. His four principles are:

1. When you are hungry, eat.
2. Eat what you want (not what you think you “should”.)
3. Eat consciously and enjoy every mouthful.
4. When you are full stop.

Seems pretty simple right? He also has his own TV show in the UK..

I’ll be undergoing some hypnotherapy sessions specifically related to weight loss. I’ll keep you posted as to how this goes for me.

Life change # 4 Breast Augmentation

So.. now we get to the fun stuff. LOL

okay so I almost 100 % sure im all done having babies.   I have always wanted to have larger breast. NOT huge , but I wanted some to fill my bra. I wanted to be able to take my bra off and not hide myself from others. living in finland has been hard in that area. the people are so free with their bodies. like the swimming halls and saunas.. no ones even looking at each other as to who’s body is better looking. Moms where bikinis to the beach here even when they are on the heavy side. its just fine.

so about 6 months ago I told my husband that I think I want to have a breast augmentation. He was very supportive and knew that I loved my boobs when my milk came in and I was breast feeding. He even told me I seemed so happy.

we decided to do research for 4-6 months.  call some doctors, look at prices ect. I also had to start to try and stop breast feeding a bit. little baby was about 2 years old at this time. So I tried to just wean him little by little. it took about 2 months before he only comfort nursed, at night and my milk flow was pretty much gone. My breast where also gone even more. Like im talking nothing!!!

My husband called to one Private hospital about getting a  breast augmentation. I had a consultation time and a surgery date set for may 31, 2009.

I didnt go through with it though, We decided that I was still going to look around , so to speak. The price was HIGH and also they right away suggested anatomical implants for me.  after doing so much research I felt that because my breast where deflated and had no fullness above the nipple that I DIDNT want to have anatomical implants.  What I wanted was to have more fullness above my nipple and to be rounder.

So again after lots of research we called and set a time up with another place.   Went for a consult. During the consult I was very well informed as to the cons and complications of breast implants. nothing was sugar coated. we talked about size and my desires.

It was nice. I looked at many different photos of before and afters. At one point I even had to ask

“why are they all so small!!”

most of the photos where of implants in the  200cc  to 275cc range. Very nice results but much smaller then what I thought would look good on my body. After looking at hundreds and hundreds of photos on line with women my height, weight and pre boob size I wanted to be about 400-450 cc. At least a nice D cup.

I was told it was going to be a big change for me. but after measuring my breast I was then told I could get 400cc in the high profile. The high profile would give me more fullness up top. I was very happy, but of course still wanted the 450cc!! LOL

I set my surgery date. I actually had to wait 2 months extra because the doctor wanted to be sure I was not still producing milk. I also had a mammogram and blood work done.

Then I just had to wait for the big day June 25.

It was a long wait. All i did was research boobs. looked at before and afters. learned about how to treat the scars. what kind of bras to wear. all sorts of info I found from the site:

justbreastimplants.com

so I passed the days by , by eating well. working out and just going boob crazy I guess!!

I will stop this entry  here and start a new post starting with the day of surgery and up till now.

Bella's 30-Day EA Sports Active Challenge

Bella’s 30-Day Challenge is on!

Today I’m getting serious.  No more of this pussy-footing around with the EA Sports Active game.  Regardless of how much I hate it that the leg strap won’t fit my upper thigh, I’m going to do it.

Ever since I first figured out a workaround for the leg strap issue, I’ve been fairly inconsistent with my use of the EA SA (EA Sports Active is just too long to write).  I’ve done it about 4 times, but just here and there, whenever I felt like it or had extra time on my hands.

That’s no way to run a 30-Day challenge!  So today I started in earnest.  and for 20 minutes, I pushed it full force.  Even when I was getting tired of running in place for 2 minutes.  Even when the damn thing wasn’t recognizing my lunges properly (the workaround isn’t perfect).  And I loved it.  I got sweaty and a bit out of breath, and I finished feeling energized and happy.

I like that the challenge seem to be 2 days on, 1 day off, 2 days on, 1 day off and so on.  It’s instilling that point about making sure to take rest days.

Will you join me in the 30-Day Challenge?  (I’m sorry I don’t have any cool badge that you can put on your blogs.  I don’t know how to make those, but if anyone else wants to make one for me, I’d love it!!).

Always look for the blessing.......

There is always some good that can come out of bad. You just gotta look for it.

For today, I choose to be positive and not let this leg injury get me down.

In all honesty, I am absoloutley spewing about my lost wages. As little as they are (particularly of late), they do help to get me through.

So, what I am doing today is a total re-evaluation of what I spend my money on and how I can save as much as I can.

I did make a big dish of fried rice yesterday.  This is healthy and inexpensive and I will do that again today, but, we cannot live on fried rice forever.

I am going to make some vegetable soup.  I have carrots and onions in stock already. I will buy some celery and maybe a couple of spuds and make some soup.

Now that I have a new stove and so I actually have an oven that works, I can make low fat muffins and other stuff for snacks and my sons school lunches.

Previously I was buying and consuming way too much convienence foods.  Today, I realise, I have time to actually do some proper cooking and I got a brand new cook top and oven last week, so, there is no reason why I cannot cook good, healthy and economical meals for my son and I.

So, there is the blessing in my lost wages.

And hey, I will have time this week to do my creative work.  Usually I am so bloody tired after sitting there for up to 5 hours at a time folding junk mail and then walking 2 hours to deliver it, well, I have no energy left to do much of anything like cooking, cleaning and creating.

So, there are my blessings and hey, I may save so much money from cooking everything from scratch and not buying junk food that I may be able to quit my job.

Yes, I will miss the walking. I love doing all the walking which is why I have stuck with this job for the last 2 years, BUT, I do have my gym membership and I can go swimming while my leg is out of action.

So, yes, there are blessings in this leg injury.

If you look long and hard enough for the blessings in a bad situation, you can and will find them.

For today, I refuse to be a victim.  I will use this injury to improve my life in areas that most definitely need improving.

Sometimes when we continually ignore doing what is good for us, God will come in and force you to start doing those things.

In a way, I feel this is the case for me.

For today, I choose to not be a victim.  :0)

I Didn't Need a Tetanus Shot!

Rethinking this whole blog thing.  Yeah, it’s fun writing and all, except now that I’ve laid it all out there; exposed my innermost struggles to the entire cyber world, etc., I realize I have an obligation to update you on my situation since last we met.  (Sigh) Why didn’t I start out pretending to be a tall, shapely supermodel who moonlights as a neurosurgeon, or a professional ballroom dancer who enjoys rock climbing and dog sledding during my spare time?  Nope.. I had to go be honest and tell you I’m a lumpy, plumpy, middle aged woman who works sitting in front of a computer.  What’s worse is, during my “real life” spare time, guess what I’m doing?  …..Sitting in front of a computer.   (Waiting to hear the sound of your jaw hitting the floor In shock at my admitted life of lethargy, but can’t hear a  thing over those steenkin’ crickets).

So, I met with my doc… Dr. Ngyuen.  Awesome doctor.  You really feel like he cares.  And he actually bothers to follow up with you.  I suppose I’m lucky to have him.  Didn’t feel so lucky on Monday, though.  First, I start off the visit with a weigh-in.  Good Lord!  I didn’t realize they were embedding weights in the rubber soles of sneakers these days!  OK, OK, OK…. So I gained a few.  I played it off, like I knew it all along, but inside I was biting my cheeks in mortification (not so easy with chubby cheeks).  So.. next up was the blood pressure reading.  YIKES!  Hurt like, like,…. like I was the juiciest grape in the winepress.  No surprise that my pressure was high. Oh no.  What WAS surprising though, was when the nurse announced that whenever they get a high reading, they need to take a second one.  Are you kidding me lady!?!  I looked her over carefully, determined to memorize her face, in case she happens to be in the path of my grocery cart at some point in the future.   Thank goodness, the second reading was a little lower, but still high.  I followed her to the exam room.  Why do doctors make you wait so long?  I have a theory.  It’s to give you quiet time to reflect on all your sins.  Or else, time to make up a convincing story, like “Honestly doc, I’ve only been eating salads and I’ve been working out 3 times a week.  Must be big boned.”

The moment of truth has arrived.  In walks Dr. Ngyuen.  I’d forgotten how sweet he is.  He has the kindest face.  I didn’t even mind when he started asking me what went wrong.  I briefly thought about giving him the made-up story, but God zapped me where I sat and I had to tell the truth.  “Well doc, I was going to Curves and feeling great.  Lost a good deal, then I began working at XYZ* Co.  I began to put off working out, blaming my job’s hours.  Then, I began slipping in the blood testing area (I have Type 2 Diabetes and should be testing daily), then I starting eating stuff that I knew was really bad for me.”  For a second, the devil whispered in my ear and I began to explain to the doctor how the economy has prevented me from buying healthy foods.  I could only afford to buy cheap, fatty cuts of meat and lots of potatoes, beans, rice and bread, oh and Krispy Kreme Donuts.  ….. Yeah, he made the same face you’re making right now.  After hearing me out, he said “I’m going to forego medication for diabetes for now.  You’re borderline and I believe with effort, you can control your sugar levels.  Where is your blood tester?  Do you even still have it?”  ….. “Um, nope…. But, but…my husband (also Dr. Ngyuen’s patient) hasn’t been testing either.  And he hasn’t been feeling so great lately either.”   Yes, that’s right folks, I threw my diabetic husband under the bus in an attempt to deflect attention from myself.  I’m so ashamed…. NOT!  Hehehehe    “OK, I’m ordering new testing kits for both of you. You’d both better start using them.  Tell him to make an appointment with me, or I WILL be sending him a postcard.  As for you.  New lab tests in August and I want to see results.”….  “OK doc, but let me just warn you.  I can’t really start a diet till next week, cuz my sister’s taking me out to dinner for my birthday.”….   “Nice try.  You’ll start now. Eat your birthday dinner and start again the next morning.  One more thing.  When was your last tetanus shot?”   Tetanus shot!?! …NO WAY!………   So, he orders up a tetanus shot before I leave!  “I didn’t sign on for no steenkin’ tetanus shot.  I haven’t been eating from garbage cans for pete’s sake!  I’m just fat!”   Too late, he’s left the office.  Two minutes later…… sheeeeee’s baaaaack…… the evil nurse who squeezed all the blood from my left arm.  And she’s holding a needle!  GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZZ LOOOUUUEEEEZZZ!!!  She shot me in the same arm!!  That’s it lady!  Stay away from Ralph’s Market or be askeered…. Be very askeered!

Fast forward four days.  Just had my birthday dinner with my sister and my niece, Jacqui.  We didn’t have Thai.  We had sushi, which I also adore!!  Ate like piggies.  But, I would like to add, I’ve eaten pretty healthy since the dr. visit…. Well, one slip up on Thursday…. But it could have been worse.  I’m going to take it a day at a time.  If I fall off the wagon, I’ll huff and puff and climb back on.  Seriously, I really do want to be healthy.  Improving my appearance would be a nice outcome, but, my main goal is to be here to see my grandkids grow up.  OK Lord What’s the scripture for the day?…..

Proverbs 13:3  -  He who guards his mouth preserves his life, but he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction.    (Yes, I know the popular interpretation = guard your speech;  But, I’m going to apply it to my situation, cuz I think it still works, OK Lord?)

3 Rules For Finishing The Master Cleanse

If you are not prepared for what you’ll experience when you do the Master Cleanse there’s a good chance you’ll fail. Typically lasting just 10 days, it’s easy to see why people just “jump right in” to the Master Cleanse thinking it will be easy. It’s not.

During your time on the Master Cleanse you are likely to experience hunger, aches, and irritability. Most people give up because of hunger. Putting solid food aside for a couple days and only drinking liquids is harder then most people think. Even though the cravings for whole foods can be difficult they do subside after a few days on the Master Cleanse.

So rule number 1 for finishing the Master Cleanse is getting past the third day. Instead of focusing on completing the entire 10 days from the onset of the cleanse just focus on getting past day 3. Breaking the Master Cleanse down into smaller milestones will be a big help.

Rule number 2 for finishing the Master Cleanse is dealing with aches and soreness. Headaches are one of the most common Master Cleanse side effects, but some people also get body aches.

To reduce aches you should drink a lot of water. It’s also good to relax and not push your self too hard when you do the Master Cleanse. Exercising should be kept to light walking and stretching. Your body will be going through a rigorous cleansing process during the Master Cleanse, and won’t be able to adequately recover from intense exercise during this time.

Rule number 3 for finishing the Master Cleanse is overcoming irritability. This affects the people around you more then it does yourself, but it’s something you need to be aware of before starting the Master Cleanse.

It’s best to let the people around you know that you’re going to be doing the Master Cleanse ahead of time so they can do their best to accommodate you. Also try to plan your Master Cleanse when you’re not too busy. Most of us can’t just take 10 days off to do the Master Cleanse, but you should try to avoid doing it when you’re swamped at work, or have other stressful events going on in your life.

There’s more to succeeding at the Master Cleanse then I can cover in this small article. If you are serious about trying the Master Cleanse and want to be one of the people who do make it through the whole 10 days the Master Cleanse Secrets book is the most complete guide available for helping you get through the Master Cleanse.

Hypnotherapy and Hypnosis 6 powerful techniques to loose weight

Most people who come to us have tried many diets and failed. They have attempted exercise programs without the proper motivation, and have therefore failed. The good news is that if you know what you should be eating and you know what exercise you should be taking we don’t have to educate you on how you should eat and exercise to lose weight. All we have to do is remove the subconscious programming that is getting in the way of your success.

By the end of this article, you will amaze yourself, as you will be
aware of the hypnotic techniques that can help you drop out the
extra calories that once stole the charm of your life and your
beauty.

As a practitioner of Hypnosis I got various patients who were
suffering with the problem of obesity. Many among them were the
young girls. They came to me distressed and upset of their life and
when they left, they were having a new and a positive attitude
towards life. Such is the power of hypnosis. Two prominent causes
that were making them worried and disturbed were (a). They cannot
wear clothes, which they want to because of their over-weight and
(b). The second cause was more severe than this; they were upset
because the boys will not look at them. The boys call them aunty.

The hypnosis knows how severe this problem is. In this modern
world, you have to maintain yourself so that you do not look
outdated. The simple self-hypnotic techniques can make you gain the
shape of your body, as you have always desired.

How hypnosis can help, you lose weight. It can do so because it
orders your subconscious mind to make sufficient changes for your
benefit. Hypnosis makes it possible.
Here goes the 5 secret hypnotic techniques to lose weight:

1. Do not go for dieting: This is one of the basic and important
secrets of hypnosis. People usually follow the short-cut method to
lose weight i.e., dieting. However, it hardly works. The more you
will deprive yourself of the food, the more you will generate
curiosity towards it, as it is the tendency of man. Man has the
habit the things, which he is told not to do. Thus, if you decide
not to eat your mind thinks more of food. Eat less instead of
dieting – this is the basic concept in hypnosis to loose weight.

2. Think less of food: This is another hypnotic technique, which
works wonders. Experts say that people not only eat when they are
hungry but also when they are alone, upset or stressed. This are
the things that hypnosis reveals you. They seek eating as a relief
from their problems or tensions. So, in hypnosis you are advised
not to think of food often. You have to keep yourself busy when you
feel alone. Involve yourself in any task so that you can avoid the
thought of food at least for some time this is secret hypnosis.

3. Eat only when you are hungry and stop when you think you have
finished; Hypnosis advises you should eat your food only when you
think you are hungry. People eat their food when they think they
must no matter they are hungry or not. Hypnosis advises you to stop
your food as soon as you think you should stop. Do not eat to stop
from food from getting waste instead take less.

4. Program your mind: It is totally in your hand to rule your
mind and heart. Do not become the victim of your feelings. Be a
practical person. Before you at any thing think what benefit is it
causing you or what harm is it providing you. Restrict your mind of
eating more. Remember that all is in your hand. You can make
changes if you are willing to do so.

5. Checkout your diet: You need to keep a constant watch on your
food. Hypnosis can help you do so. You need to think whether your
diet is healthy one or an unhealthy one. If you eat too much of
wrong food such as pastries, chocolates, carbohydrates then you are
in a severe need to keep an eye on your food.

6. Visualize yourself as slim: When you begin your journey of
weight lose with hypnosis, you have to visualize yourself as slim
and beautiful you. This mental movie gives you strength and
eagerness to be slim and healthy. Feel the difference when you see
yourself as slim. Experience how it feels to be. The feeling that
you get is the source of your strength.

Exercise: This simple hypnotic exercise can change your complete
outlook:

We all have a dream girl or boy in our life. How is the person
about whom you dream? Will you like a fatty, short or stout person
who looks like your uncle? Or, would you prefer a smart, beautiful
and up-to-date person? Feel the difference yourself. Hypnosis makes
you understand the difference. When you yourself do not like the
person who will be fat then how can, you expect that others will
like you in spite of your obesity or fatness.

STEP 1. Sit is relaxed and calm place where you are not disturbed.

STEP 2. Think that you are at a place where there are of variety of
food recipes that are no doubt, mouth-watering. The dinning table
consists of sweets like pudding, cake, pastries and many more. In
addition to this it contains pizza, cheeseburger, chicken etc. The
plus point is that there is no one to see you. You are alone with
that huge variety of food.

STEP 4. What will you do? Ask your mind to ignore the presence of
the food. Think the high calorie food as a foe of your figure.

STEP 5. Recall the time when you were not hungry and not interested
in food. Relive the same feeling of disinterest on seeing the food,
which is in front of you.

STEP 6. Once you win over your feelings to control the diet, you
are the winner.

This easy, simple yet powerful hypnotic exercise work wonders.
Hypnosis can help you regain your lost confidence and interest that
your obesity snatched away from you. Try out to believe it.

Hypnotherapy for Better Golf in The Grove Watford

Playing any game has a lot to do with mindset and confidence. The more confident you are the more are your chances of doing well in your chosen game. This is true to the game of golf as well. Read on about how hypnosis will help you do well in golf.

Playing Golf has a lot to do with skill and psyche. This is the main reason how hypnosis can help you win your golf game. Hypnosis helps you improve your concentration and strengthen your mind and psyche; thereby helping you do well while playing golf. If you have a lot of problems in life that you are not able to cope up with then this affects your golf game as well. Hypnosis helps you to relax and take control of your mind and helps you focus on your game as well.

You might wonder how hypnosis will help you win a game but believe me if done the right way hypnosis will definitely help you win in golf. Golf is a strategy game and hypnosis is also a strategy that works. Through hypnosis you are able to plan and organize your game strategy, reduce your stress levels and also get rid of negative thoughts. A hypnotic session is usually done when you are totally relaxed. This is to get the best results. Usually these hypnotic sessions are performed at bedtime.

What the hypnotic session does is to help you create a feeling or vision in your mind of acting in a particular way that brings about changes in your thoughts and actions. This is true not only to golf but to other areas of your life as well. In golf hypnosis you start to envision yourself as being in good form, perform the correct swings and get the hole-in-one, which is what all golfers want. But hypnosis alone will not increase your skill in golf without you putting a substantial amount of practicing. What hypnosis does is to make your more confident about your game and change your mindset to that of a good golfer.

A self-hypnosis program helps you to remove all obstacles to a winning golf game. All you have to do is listen to the program for a few weeks. This helps you to get rid of all the fears and anxieties that you have about your game. You can remove all the stresses and anxieties that you have about your game. You start thing of yourself as a winner and you start performing well in your golf game.

Long day

What a terrible and long day today was.  I’m so glad its bed time and I get to curl up with  my laptop and write how hard and long my day has been to help my self vent. It all started this morning when I woke up late for work, I planned the night before on getting up 2 hours before work  so I would have enough time to go for a quick jog. Clearly Murphy s Law had its fun and my cell phone alarm did not go off like it was suppose to at 6 am. So I ended up scraping the jog idea and left my house quarter to 8 not getting any breakfast or a snack till 11:30 this morning. Work went slow like it has been the past 3 days I don’t know what happening but something must be up since people are not buying the garbage that I sell.  Well I shouldn’t say its garbage its just junk I wouldn’t buy, like who really needs all this protein and weight loss junk.  If you ask me I think its probably rotting your insides but helping you look good on the outside, whatever floats your boat.

When work was over I headed home and right when I walked in the front door of  my house I realized that I had forgotten my iPhone at work.  It was to late now to go back since the mall would be locked up with no way of getting in. Just to make things a little more sweeter my iPhone is my only phone I don’t have a land line. I guess now that look back at forgetting my phone at work its made tonight a little more peaceful with no one asking for favors.

Well I’m getting tired and maybe this wine I’m drinking is finally hitting me, so off to bed.

Good Night WordPress

Wednesday, July 8th

I am .4 pounds away from hitting 14 pounds lost!  It was a difficult weekend, spending the holiday with good friends and sooooo many snacks!  I got away with a couple of S’mores, and a piece of birthday cake.  Not too bad – I wanted more for sure!  I am hearing great things about AIO and the results people are having, and I love the results I am getting with all of my hard work at Goals in Motion!  Busy with baseball – halfway through All Stars, and into one more tournament this weekend.  Eventually, I will have time to plan perfectly for my workouts and menu, right?!?!

Thoughts on sport

One of the things I love most about the Race For Life is that my kids come to watch me. Both years they have been so excited – it’s a lovely day out as Mr N, my brother and his family and my parents also come to watch. My boys love the fact that I get a real medal at the end, and it’s such a boost for me as I see them cheering me on as I reach the finish line.

I’m trying to get not too hung up on the scales – I realise that my body shape has changed significantly since I started to exercise again. And my ever-patient husband keeps reminding me not to worry about the numbers – he just cares that I’ve massively improved my fitness during these last couple of years.  And it’s the same for my kids – they don’t care that I’m technically overweight, I’m always their hero when I do the race!

It’s nice to see things from their perspective sometimes – recently I realised that my commitment to exercise is something that they’ve picked up on. I spoke to my youngest boys’ pre-school teacher the other day and she told me that he tells them proudly when they do PE that ‘mummy does exercise too’. Wow – I’m actually leading by example! Not bad for the girl who was always last to be picked for teams at school. I really hated sport at school – it was always so competitive, and felt more like an exercise in survival of the fittest than anything you’d do for fun. I don’t know how sport is taught in secondary schools these days, but when I was a teenager I wish they’d taken the emphasis away from the whole ‘winning team’ idea. I like running, swimming, cycling, walking and resistance exercises. Not the sort of thing that was on offer at school. I wonder how many kids these days get turned off sport because of the type of activities that are promoted as ’sporty’ things to do. At the end of the day you’ve got to find what you enjoy or you’ll never keep it up. So hopefully my boys will continue to realise that fitness doesn’t have to mean football, cricket, rugby or whatever – fitness simply comes by doing regular exercise – any kind of exercise.

Portions Out of Control

The portions, servings, helpings, slices and amounts of what we eat have grown dramatically over the past two decades.

The bigger-is-better motto has taken over the food industry, in conjunction with mass marketing to convince us to buy bigger sizes in order to save money. Supermarkets and restaurants use the promise of better value as a way of pushing extra food onto customers.

• Pizza pies were 10 inches in diameter back in the 1970s. Today the average size for a pizza is between 16 and 18 inches!

• A Hershey chocolate bar weighed 0.6 ounces its first year on the market. The standard bar now weighs 1.6 ounces. That’s almost 3 times its original weight!

• All of the most popular burger restaurants have increased the size of their hamburgers. The original Burger King burger weighed in at 3.9 ounces, and today a Double Whopper is 12.6 ounces. McDonald’s original patty started out at 1.6 ounces, and now the Double Quarter Pounder is 8 ounces — that’s five times more meat!

• Even diet food has grown in size. During the 1990s, Weight Watchers introduced their Smart Ones frozen meals with larger portion sizes. Lean Cuisine offered Hearty Portions, with 100 more calories than the original meal.

• Starbucks once offered the “short” cup of coffee at 8 ounces, but it is no longer on the menu. The smallest cup you can order is the “tall.” At 12 ounces, this cup is nearly twice the size of what was once considered a regular cup of coffee.

• When Hot Pockets advertised that they added 10% more filling to their microwavable sandwiches while keeping the price the same, their sales increased by 32%.

• If you compare the new edition of the classic cookbook The Joy of Cooking to the original, you will find identical recipes for cookies and brownies, except that the new recipe makes fewer servings: for example, 16 brownies instead of 30. The modern portions are twice as large.

• The Olive Garden restaurant chain offers the “Never-Ending Pasta Bowl,” with unlimited refills of pasta for only $7.95.

Portion Distortion

Bigger portions mean we eat more than we need. When a larger portion is placed in front of us, we tend to eat 30% to 50% more! Most often, we don’t even realize that we are eating more.

• Women ate 31% more and men ate 56% more when served a 12-inch sub sandwich instead of a 6-inch sandwich.

• When cooking, people poured 4.3 ounces of oil from a 32-ounce bottle, but only 3.5 ounces from a 16-ounce bottle.

• Moviegoers ate 61% more popcorn when given the larger container than they did with a small size. We make our own at home and bring (sneak) it in. This way we avoid the Genetically Modified corn and can control the portion sizes and the quality! Check the blog for our delicious popcorn recipe!

• Snackers poured about twice as many M&Ms from a jumbo bag (103) than they did when given a smaller package (63).

Adapted from The Portion Teller, by Lisa R. Young, PhD, RD.

What’s the solution?

Becoming aware is the first step. Putting less on your plate or using smaller plates puts you back at the helm as well.

But here’s the real deal:

The problem is processed, chemicalized, artificial foods. All of the items mentioned above are highly refined food facsimiles. Because they are so processed, they lack nutritional density. As you add more nutritionally dense foods into your diet, you naturally eat less. (Just ask my clients. I go on and on about this but it works!) When you overeat, it is largely due to not feeling satisfied when in fact, you are not being satisfied nutritionally. Go figure!

Here are some other tips:

  • Drink a full glass of water before you sit down to eat
  • Cook more of your own food. not only do you control portions and ingredients but you engage in the act of creating something to nourish you.
  • Set a relaxing atmosphere for your meal. turn off the television, light a candle, create some ambiance and enjoy your meal in a relaxed state of gratitude.
  • Chew slowly and enjoy the full range of tastes and smells. Notice how things grow sweeter as you chew. Digestion begins in the mouth.
  • Include a soup with your meal, it will add nutrition, fill you up, and warm your tummy.
  • Put your fork down between bites. Breathe, smile, have a pleasant conversation. Ask questions and listen, really listen.

Good Ways to Lose Weight

Obesity- it is probably the most unwanted health troubles affecting the masses and the worst part is that it has almost taken the face of a prevailing health problem. A large section of the American population and also rest of the world is affected by the same problem. Some of the commonest troubles that are closely associated with obesity include diabetes, heart problems, high blood pressure and cholesterol. Morbid obesity in itself is an immensely serious problem. With the on growing prevalence of obesity and excessive fat deposition troubles, more number of techniques to dissolve them is coming up.

Whenever you search the Internet with the simple keyword obesity and its treatment literally thousands of results show up and almost all of them claim to be the best when it comes to yield results. But this is quite an evident fact that if all of them were equally effective, the problem would have been solved much easily; which has not occurred till date, hence it is solely the responsibility of the consumers to select the best possible option that will actually help in cutting down the flab.

Weight loss program in a unique way

Success ! ! Success !! Alas found an effective way to live a healthy and happy life.

Sunday morning I woke up and looked into my calender for any parties to be attended. I have a large set of relatives located in the garden city of Bangalore. Since I belong to a community where each and every step forward in life is celebrated and people ( Not exactly poor ) are feasted upto their neck and loaded with gifts to get good blessings.

I always wondered was there ever economic crisis (recession) in India ?. We, the people of India always celebrate life to the fullest extent. We save for the marriage, tonsure ceremony, naming ceremony of the kid to name a few and ignore retirement. Such is the irony of life in India.

On these thoughts I was checking the calender in my china mobile and there was B’Day party to attend. I was holding my son in hand and was chit chatting with my relatives who are around. The B’Day party host arrived with a plate full of party cake slices and offered the same to us. I took one slice but surprisingly my son rejected it. I wondered and asked him Why So son? He said I had my breakfast now and I am not going to have any food for sometime until hungry.

This kindled me and said within that if a kid is thinking that he should not eat when he is hungry then I am his father. Well big things always come in small packets and so are the thoughts.

So I took this very seriously and started hunting for information on weight loss and eating habits. Found a good article in internet as to Why New Yorkers are slim and trim ?. The reason for their fit body is that they walk and I promise you they walk a lot. Since in downtown New York the parking is a big thing in the morning and its hefty on the pocket as well. So people use sub-ways to travel and reach their destination which involves a lot of walking back and forth to and from the station.

I started implementing the same idea but to cater to my needs. First thing I parked my car in the garage and made a promise to myself that I will not commute to office using the same during the weekdays unless there is emergency. Went to the nearest bus station and en quired about the buses , the rates and about the passes that are available for the daily commuters.

Went to the place where the local guy suggested to get a photo-Id give for the daily commuter. It took me close to 2 hours of standing in line to get one. This one was worth it as it burnt lot of my calories which is what the ulterior goal. I am all set to take the city bus to commute. It was hard in the initial days as I had to move .Approximately one mile is the distance to the nearest bus station from the home and around the same distance to the office depending on the bus routes. So I walk one way around 1.5kms to 2kms. On way back after first week one I get down one stop ahead and started walking to home.

RESULTS.

Original weight on May 30th – 91kgs.

Weight on July 4th – 89kgs.

Overall Feel – Fit and fine.

Recommendation – Try this with no fat diet I am sure you will loose more.

On a last thought it is an easy way to give your bit to the environment.
