Walking: Day 0

Starting tomorrow,  I am going to walk for at least 30 minutes every day.  I should be able to do this fairly easily, as I have a puppy who loves walking.   If I can just force myself to wake up early enough, I could take him out for a 30-minute walk every morning (rather than the short outside trip to go pee).   We need to start taking him to the dog park more often as well.

30 minutes.  Every day.  NO EXCUSES.

It’s that simple.

[Via http://theprocessofbecoming.wordpress.com]

Eating: Day 0

I’m out of shape.  I could stand to lose about 70 pounds.  I’m 5′3″, about 215 pounds, and wear a size 18 (which, depending on the pants, has gotten tight).  I am big-boned (no, really!), and when I was at my thinnest and most fit (in the military), I weighed a little under 145 pounds.  Thus, that is my eventual goal.

Goal Weight: 145 pounds

** Note to self:  Measure actual waist line.  **

According to this weight loss calculator, if I lose 1 pound a week (which is the healthy way to do it), I will lose this weight by May 5th, 2011.    That seems reasonable.   It estimates my BMI (body mass index) at 38.1 (that sucks) which is classified as Severe Obesity (that really sucks).   It says my normal daily caloric intake to maintain my current weight should not exceed 2015 calories (based on my current very light / sedentary lifestyle).

Thus:

I need to eat 1500 calories or less per day.   I’m not even going to include my plans for exercise / walking into that calculation.   1500 seems reasonable.  That’s like three 500 calorie meals.

The Strategy

Internet wisdom tells me that three square meals is not the way to go, for weight loss or general health.  Eating throughout the day is the answer.

  • Power breakfast (500 calories):   My understanding is that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  Here is where I will get my energy to make it through the day!   Plenty of fiber and protein.  I should try to eat the same thing for breakfast and lunch everyday (people with less choices lose more weight).
  • Brunch snack (100 calories)
  • Light lunch (300 calories):   A carbalicious lunch will only make me crash in the afternoon.  Maybe some soup or salad.
  • Afternoon snack (100 calories)
  • Decent dinner (500 calories)

And what to eat?   HEALTHY?  What does that mean? Eating SMART.  I’ve read the RealAge books and that seems to be the way to go.  The RealAge diet is not a fad diet – it’s the way you are supposed to eat.

Highlights:

  • Lots of fruits and veggies.
  • Whole-grain carbohydrates (that includes vegetables); fiber; nuts.
  • Lean, healthy protein such as fish, poultry, and (sparingly) lean meats.
  • Emergency food:  Apples, almonds, walnuts, edamame (soybeans), sugar-free gum, chopped veggies, nonfat yogurt or cottage cheese

Shopping for after christmas sales? The best buy of 2010 starts with Y...

We got lots of belief, inspiration and motivation!

Too late, too old, not ready yet, not clever enough, too dear, too hard… what is your excuse for not getting what you want in the new year?

Your ability to turn excuses into more useful beliefs, will determine your success in 2010.

When you start to think more usefully, you will be putting yourself in the right frame of mind.

So, when you think about the goals you want to achieve, you will feel differently about them. They will simply seem more doable.

Whatever it is that you want, whether you want a more successful career, better relationships, more money, love, a healthier and fitter body…

You can have it when you get yourself in the right mindset, identify the skills you need to make it happen, and take consistent and focused action.

How can you do this? Well, here is a little taster…

Take a couple of minutes to write down all the negative things you usually tell yourself that have been keeping you from taking action in a particular area.

For example: Getting a new job

Negative beliefs Useful  beliefs – I am not good enough at public speaking

-  I am not a good sales person

-  I am not qualified enough for the job

-  I am not confident enough for the interview

– I can become better at public speaking by…

-  I can become a better sales person by…

– I can be more qualified for the job by…

– I can be more confident at the interview by…

Whatever endings you choose for your “useful beliefs” statements, will give you an idea into the resources and skills you can get better at.

And your objectives will seem more real and achievable once you have identified what  it is that you need to improve.

This is why the best investment you will make this year is in improving Yourself; getting the skills you need so you can achieve your goals quickly and more effortlessly.

Nothing will ever be as rewarding, long-lasting and good value for money. Talk about bargains!

One of my clients  was made redundant from her job and came to me for help.

We discussed a number of ideas, all of which she turned down. She said she was too old to start over. She is in her early sixties.

So we googled away and this is a shortened list of what we found out:

  • Verdi composed his Ave Maria at age 85.
  • Harlan Sanders started Kentucky Fried Chicken at 65.
  • Ronald Reagan didn’t get into politics until he was 55.
  • Laura Ingalls Wilder (author of Little House on the Prairie) published her first book in her 60s.
  • Rodney Dangerfield didn’t start doing comedy until he was 45.
  • Cezanne’s most highly prized paintings were done in his 60s.
  • Alfred Hitchcock’s best films, including Vertigo and Psycho, were done in his late 50s and early 60s.

Not only was she shocked, but she was also deeply inspired.

After this, we worked together on turning her excuses into reasons why she wanted to start over doing something she loved.

We identified the skills she needed to acquire and put together an action plan that worked for her.

She took action straight away, and to this day she emails me telling me how much happier and accomplished she feels.

When it comes to personal accomplishment, as George washington once said, ninety-nine per cent of the failures come from people who have the habit of making excuses.

So, remember, if you have things you want to achieve in the new year, quit making excuses and avail of the best special offer ever: The opportunity to improve yourself and the quality of your life.

All Hypnosis is Self-Hypnosis

Forget the image of a swinging pendulum or a complete stranger bounding around a stage clucking like a chicken. Hypnosis is most definitely not mind control! In fact, nothing could be further from the truth as no one can use hypnosis to control you. All hypnosis is self- hypnosis. You are in control.

The human mind is extremely complex and we are nowhere near unraveling its mysteries completely. However we do not know that hypnosis has fantastic therapeutic and healing qualities. All living things in the plant and animal world have one thing in common: all have within them the most incredible capacity to heal. An animal recovers from wounds and illness and a tree can grow new leaves and branches, and we can use our minds to cure ourselves of virtually any ailment. The absolute, unwavering belief in your own ability to heal is key to all self-healing.

Hypnosis reaches below that part of the mind that does not understand, or maybe does not believe, to that part of the mind that has great belief and full understanding. This is the part of your mind that keeps you going at a level where you do not need to think about it. Your breathing, the beating of your heart, your reflexes, everything that works in your body beyond your conscious thought is being controlled by your sub-conscious mind. And thank goodness it is! Can you imagine the chaos if you could consciously alter all of your subconscious processes. It is believed that over 90% of all diseases and disabilities stem from our minds. This is, of course, impossible to quantify, but if so many illnesses are caused by the human mind, then it is well within the scope of the human mind to cure and prevent these illnesses.

The unconscious part of the mind doesn’t distinguish the difference between what is real and unreal, what is imagined and what is fact. As a consequence anything the unconscious mind accepts as fact will be carried out by the human body. If you think you might catch a cold off someone, then you probably will! The stronger the impressions or emotions on the mind the more certainly it will be carried out.

Have you ever been told you don’t look well and suddenly start feeling some symptoms? This is the power of the human mind in all its glory. The unconscious mind doesn’t distinguish between what is real or unreal. Whatever our subconscious mind accepts as fact will be carried out in our bodies. The imagination has a powerful effect on the body.

It is often said that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis, and consequently the Hypnotherapist is merely a catalyst. Self- hypnosis generally consists of having a quiet undisturbed time focusing inwardly, or on an object, and permitting yourself to drift into a deeply relaxed state by talking to yourself in a positive and repetitive way. This deeply relaxed self- hypnotic state can help reduce pain, stress and anxiety, increase your energy levels and helps you to have a more positive outlook on life so you can achieve your full potential.

How to Lose Ten Pounds Quickly

A lot of times, the last ten pounds are the hardest to lose. Maybe you don’t want to put forth the effort. Exercise may not be high on your favorites list. Or maybe it is, but it just isn’t denting that last bit of weight. If you try these simple steps, you can lose ten pounds in five weeks.

One straightforward tip to helping you cut back calories is to skip the salad dressing on your salad. Normally a salad has five tablespoons of salad dressing, and each tablespoon usually contains about 80 calories. That is 400 calories per salad. For people who eat a salad every day, this adds up!

Exchanging skim milk for whole milk in your diet is another effective method in cutting back on calories, especially if you drink more than one cup per day.

Another glorious tip is to eat your sandwiches as open-faced sandwiches. In other word, avoid the top piece of bread on your sandwiches. If you do so, you will save about 8o calories per sandwich. If you eat one sandwich a day, you will save over 500 calories in a week.

Most of us drink beverages that have about 250 calories in each serving. If you can just cut out 250 calories of liquid a day, by the end of one week, you will have cut out 1750 calories.

Eat slower, allowing yourself to feel when you are getting full. Do it for all three meals during the day, and that is 180 calories per day, or over 1200 calories per week!

By following these easy steps, you can lose the last bit of weight without working out or drastically changing your dieting habits.

Your Health is a Team Sport

Peyton Manning walks up to the line of scrimmage.  He deftly surveys the defense and their formation.  The crowd noise blisters his eardrums.  The linebackers are showing blitz.  One of them is glaring at him homicidally.  Manning quickly glances at the play clock.  He starts his cadence.  “Green 48…Green 48!  Hut, hut!,” but where is the ball?  He doesn’t feel it snap comfortably into his large hands.  In fact, he doesn’t even see the center.  He’s got no line, no receivers, no backs. He is out there all by himself.

On the third hut he grabs the ball and runs the only play he can – a one man quarterback sneak.  With only one man, it is not very sneaky, and 11 men jump angrily on his back driving him to the turf.  Football, as you see, is a team effort.

Your health, as we say at Fantasy Healthball, is also a team effort.  Re-learning how to eat and following our nutrition and exercise guidelines won’t be simple.  If it were simple, everyone would be slim, trim, and live to see their grandchildren’s children.  The word “liposuction” would never have been invented.  The world would have been spared ever seeing Richard Simmons in spandex yelling, “Come on girls, shake those buns with me, you can do it!”  But improving your health, losing weight, re-learning how to eat, and exercising takes work.  And as they say, “many hands make light work.”

Re-learning how to eat is much easier if you can get support from other members of your household:  spouse, family members, roommates, etc.  If you are dedicated to eating right, and your roommate is constantly stocking the kitchen shelves with bon bons or high-calorie, high-fat super sugar fun cakes or whatever, that isn’t helping anybody.  You can change your eating habits on your own, but it is a lot easier with support.  You can run through and over would-be tacklers, but it is a lot easier if you have some blocking!

We recommend talking about your health goals to the people you live with and/or the people you work most closely with or spend the most time with.  Will power is much easier if unhealthy food isn’t around you to begin with.  Speaking from my own experience, if the unhealthy food is right in front of me, it is hard to pass it up.  But if it is not there, it is much easier for me to grab an apple or banana or raisins or any of the World’s Healthiest Foods.

Building up your team of supporters will also help you in other ways.  As teammates, they will help you achieve your goals, whether that is giving you time to walk around the block for 30 minutes a day or keeping their high-cal, high-fat, super sugar fun cakes in a special place away from where your food is, or work colleagues bringing you fruit instead of Costco cookies.  They can give you moral support to and cheer you on.  Hey, they might even join you.  Be a workout partner.  Make healthy meals together.  Try new recipes! Or, if they play fantasy sports, make it a friendly competition by playing Fantasy Healthball!

So remember, you can do this alone.  Email us for some more tips on how to do it alone.  But the going is much easier with a team around you.  People who care and want you to achieve your goals.  Don’t run three quarterback sneaks and then punt on 4th down.  Use your team for a balanced and high scoring offense.  – Jim Ballard

3 Choices To Help You Lose Weight

1.  The  Weight Loss Patch

Perhaps the most appealing benefit of using a patch is that it is so easy to use.   No pills to remember to take, no special diets, no required exercise routine.   Naturally, sticking to a healthy diet and exercise program is best for your overall health, but if that is difficult for you to adhere to all of the time, the patch may be a solution that works for you.

A weight loss patch that you place on your body will deliver the active ingredients by transdermal delivery, meaning  through the skin.  The patch ingredients will go directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system and liver. Simply apply the patch to a smooth area of your skin and change it every 3 days.   That is all of the maintenance that is required.

A patch can even be used occasionally when you are traveling and know you will be eating out a lot, or for those times you are too busy to cook the proper foods.  A patch that suppresses your appetite will help you develop good eating habits that will help you maintain your ideal weight in the future  ~ no more yo-yo figures.

2.  Appetite Suppressant Pills

Curbing your appetite to stop the influx of calories in the first place seems to be the logical way to lose and maintain your weight.  However, we are so bombarded by confusing claims everywhere for appetite suppressant pills ~ in print, on the radio, on television, even on billboards when driving, that it is difficult to know which diet pill will really help take off those pounds ~ and keep them off..

Some diet pills will cause your heart to race, your hands to shake, or an overall “wired” feeling.  To avoid these problem, stay away from products that contain  Ephedra, Ma Huang, and Ephedrine.

One herbal diet pill that has gotten a lot of publicity lately is Hoodia Gordonii  The authentic plant comes from the Kalahari desert in  South Aftrica.  Respectable television shows like 60 Minutes, the Today Show, BBC, and even Oprah’s “O” magazine have given it rave reviews for its fast acting appetite suppressing qualities.  While it can take one to two weeks to work fully, many users report a decline in their appetite with the first pill.

In fact, Hoodia has had so many positive reports that there are now a lot of knock-off products being marketed to the uninformed ~ especially on the Internet.   The real Hoodia is very rare because it takes up to 7 years for the Hoodia  plant to mature to a point where it provides appetite suppressant qualities.  In addition, the African government is now limiting the amount of Hoodia it exports, meaning only a few suppliers have the real thing.  Because Hoodia is so rare, you can expect it to be a little more expensive than other diet pills.

Another diet pill that helps shed pounds is Herbal Phentermine.  This is a non-prescription appetite  suppressant that is scientifically designed to produce similar effects of a popular Rx version of phentermine.

The good news is that the Herbal version contains only natural ingredients so you don’t have to be worried about side effects.   Plus, you can avoid the time, expense, and embarrassment of a doctor’s visit.

Herbal Phentermine will not only suppress your appetite, but it will also increase your metabolism so you burn more calories and have more energy.

3). Carbohydrate Blockers

Perhaps you prefer not to have your appetite suppressed, but instead would like to eat all of the pasta, bread, rice, and potatoes you want.  If this sounds more like your style, then you might want to try a carbohydrate  blocker.

Scientists have discovered, and thoroughly tested a method to allow us to eat the foods we love and not gain weight.    We can now stop the normal conversion of starchy foods to sugar before it can pass through our digestive system and store as fat on our hips, thighs, buttocks and stomach.  Derived from white kidney beans, the resulting carb blockers, (starch neutralizers), are a completely natural product.  They work by neutralizing the Alpha amylase enzyme that digests starch.

By neutralizing this digestive enzyme, the starch from our food does not get digested.  Instead, it remains intact and does not convert to sugar.  It simply passes through the body undigested and acts as a fiber  ~ which is a very good thing.   We get more fiber going through our intestines while avoiding the conversion to sugar and the resulting fat storage ~  a definite win-win situation.

Over the past several years, there have been many positive studies to determine the effectiveness of carb blockers and their ability to help lose weight.   One study was performed at the Northridge Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA, over an eight week time period.

It reported that participants saw an average weight loss of 200% more than those taking a placebo, and lost an average of 1.5 inches around their waists.  This was 43 % more than those taking  the placebo.  Plus they reported  having 13% more energy, even though it is not a stimulant.

Whether you choose patches or pills, prefer to eat starchy foods, or use carb blockers, some things to look for when buying diet products are that they:

1) Contain all natural ingredients
2) Do not have harmful side effects
3) Offer a 100% money back guarantee

"Fad" Weight Loss Diet

Overview:

Obesity is a physical state that refers to excessive body fat. Chances are you have experienced the frustrations of dieting at least once in your life, if you have problems with your weight. Close to a hundred million Americans go on a weight loss diet in any given year and up to ninety-five percent of them regain the weight they lose within five years. Worse, a third will gain back more weight than they lost, in danger of “yo-yoing” from one popular diet to another. The conventional approach to weight problems, focusing on fad weight loss diets or weight loss drugs, may leave you with just as much weight and the additional burden of ill health.

Today, an estimated sixty-five percent of all American adults are obese or overweight. Our culture obsesses about staying thin even as we grow fatter, but this isn’t about appearances. Obesity is known to be a precursor to many debilitating health conditions such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, osteoarthritis, and gallbladder disease. Obesity contributes to as many as 375,000 deaths every year. In addition, the public health costs for obesity are staggering. According to researchers at Harvard University, obesity is a factor in 19% of all cases of heart disease with annual health costs estimated at 30 billion dollars; it’s also a factor in 57% of diabetes cases, with health costs of $9 billion per year.

Set Realistic Goals:

No doubt you have fallen for one or more of the weight loss diet schemes over the years, promising quick and painless weight loss. Many of these quick weight loss diet programs undermine your health, cause physical discomfort, flatulence, and ultimately lead to disappointment when you start regaining weight, shortly after losing it. Fad or quick weight loss diet programs generally overstress one type of food. They contravene the fundamental principle of good nutrition – to remain healthy one must consume a balanced diet, which includes a variety of foods. Safe, healthy, and permanent weight reduction is what’s truly lost among the thousands of popular diet schemes.

Some of the weight loss diet schemes reign supreme briefly, only to fade out. While some wane from popularity due to being unproductive or unsafe, some simply lose the public’s curiosity. Examples of such fad diets include the South Beach Diet, Atkins diet, the Grapefruit diet, Cabbage Soup diet, the Rotation diet, Beverly Hills diet, Breatharian, Ornish Plan – the list goes on and on. These fad diets advocate a specific technique (such as eliminating a certain food, or eating only certain combinations of foods) in conjunction with the basic idea that the body makes up the difference in energy by breaking down and utilizing some part of itself, essentially converting matter into energy. This self-cannibalism, or catabolism as it is referred, typically starts with breakdown of stored body fat.

Skinny cow

To let you know, this has nothing to do with cows, so if you were hoping it was, just stop reading now. To be honest, the only reason I called it skinny cow, it because they make good ice cream.

Anyway, over the three years that I have been in track, it seems that this is the first year that I have lost a lot of weight. Now I’m not the kind of person who was obese and I never really cared about my weight, but I still have noticed that I am getting skinner. I went to the doctor’s office on Monday (which I disliked a lot) and found that I have lost 15 pounds, since the year has started.

I don’t know about some people, but that is a lot of pounds (it’s double digits) and I really do think that I’ll be getting skinnier as the year goes by. But I don’t want to get too skinny though, because I really don’t want to get that much attention about my weight (which is kind of ironic, because I’m blogging about my weight now). Anyway the only reason I pointed out my weight, is because at first I found out that I can fit a shirt that I haven’t been able to fit for two years and because Coach Collins pointed it out, so it got me to thinking about how much I have actually lost.

But if you see and notice that I have lost some weight (no offense to you) please don’t point it out, I am aware that I am not as big as I was and thank you in advance for noticing anyway.

Lose weight fast

Do you drink enough water?

Water carries nutrients and oxygen to the cells through the blood. We need water to breathe; we lose approximately one pint of liquid every day just by breathing out.
As a result of not drinking enough water, many people encounter such problems as excess body fat, poor muscle tone and size, also decreased digestive efficiency and organ function, increased toxicity in the body, joint and muscle soreness after exercise and water retention.

Proper water intake is the key to weight loss our body can’t metabolize the fat, we retain fluid, which keeps our weight up. The minimum amount of water we should drink is 8-10 glasses a day. More water is good if your over weight. Your water intake should be spread throughout the day, including the evening. There is absolutely not too much water you can drink the more the better.

Water is water. Don’t substitute for anything else. Most of the liquids we drink are toxins to our body which are not good for us. There is a difference between pure water and other drinks that contain water.

Water is water. Yes, you can get it by consuming juice, soda, alcohol, coffee or tea. Unfortunately, while these drinks contain water, they also may contain substances that are not healthy for us. drinks that contain caffeine, such as coffee, stimulate our adrenal glands; juices contain a lot of sugar and stimulate the pancreas.

The way to lose all of this, therefore, is that the recommended daily water intake means just water.

Get In The Mood Again

Did you once enjoy a great sex life, but over the last several years (or decades), you’ve lost that sizzle between the sheets?

Surveys report that over 20 million couples in the U.S. have stopped being sexually intimate and 40 million Americans live in a no-sex or low-sex marriage. For those Americans, love-making is increasingly infrequent and, on the rare occasion they do have sex, it just isn’t as much fun as it used to be. Many people blame their dwindling sex drive on age, stress, weight gain, and fatigue. They are resigned to a sex-less life.

The book In the Mood Again, by husband and wife team Genie James and Dr. C.W. Randolph,  tells readers that no matter how old you are or how long it has been since you felt in the mood, you can once again enjoy regular, passionate and relationship-enriched sex.  Even better, medical research shows that a renewed sex life can become a secret fountain of youth giving you more energy, helping you lose weight, improving your overall health and wellbeing and also contributing to extended longevity.

Genie James and Dr. Randolph unveil the subtle yet insidious sex drive saboteurs that compound underlying hormone imbalances in men and women: stress, lack of sleep, bad food choices, weight gain, and sedentary lifestyles. They have created two natural solutions that can either intersect or stand alone, both approaches beginning and ending with your hormones.

The first approach involves replacing the hormones your body is missing with ones just like it used to make. This approach is not accomplished by prescribing popular synthetic hormones but with a different type of hormone called BHRT (bio-identical hormone replacement therapies), which are plant-derived hormone molecules that are identical to the human hormones produced within your body.

For more than a decade, Dr. Randolph has used BHRT to treat thousands of women and men suffering from low libido and/or sexual performance problems. After only 3 months on an individualized prescription of BHRT, 92% of Dr. Randolph’s patients report a complete restoration of sexual desire. 99% of all patients indicate they have more energy and 87% say they have lost 10 pounds or more.

But if you aren’t sure if BHRT is for you, Genie James and Dr. Randolph offer an alternative holistic approach:

  1. Schedule sex on your calendar
  2. Be a kind and patient listener
  3. Find a new passion to share
  4. Believe your body is good enough to share
  5. Ask for what you want

The book, In The Mood Again, hits shelves Dec. 29, 2009

Ardyss Life

Charlotte Ellis Colbert, Ardyss Independent Distributor, 469-360-7852

Ardyss began in 1991 as a Mexican Manufacturing Company with a new concept for corsetry, designed for reshaping the female figure. This concept was the idea of Mr. Antonio Diaz de Leon.

There were difficult times, but through the dedication, enthusiasm and creativity of both Antonio and Armida Diaz de Leon, they were able to develop a series of exclusive garment designs with the support of a team of engineers, doctors, cosmetologists, and nutritionists. They managed to develop and patent these useful and necessary garments with the highest quality standards and with medical and engineering principles.

Like many big companies, the creation of Ardyss came about in a fortuitous manner.

Having completed his work for the Reynosa Tamps. Customs Administration, Mr. Antonio Diaz de Leon opened his offices in Guadalajara, Mexico in 1990. Antonio had the idea of acquiring the exclusive representation of several companies, but they shut the doors on him and denied him representation as soon as they found out that he was a former government employee. Many would have given up, but Antonio persevered.

That same year, Antonio was taking a driving trip from Guadalajara to Mexico City in search of representation. He was not aware of an event that was about to change his destiny and make him forget about the representations he was looking for. During the journey he gave a ride to five rural teachers. After picking them up he asked them if they were embarassed having to hitch hike and one of them immediately responded: “Yes sir, but it costs us $12.00 to go work and $12.00 to return home. That’s $120.00 per week and $480.00 per month. We earn $550.00.

In an effort to continue the conversation, Antonio asked them, “Do you do anything else to generate income?” One of them answered, “Yes sir, a neighbor lends me a pamphlet to sell cosmetics and I make the sales by showing the pamphlet.” Suddenly, that comment reminded Antonio of the time he was studying at the university. He had seen the birth of that industry in Mexico. As it frequently occurs with visionaries, his mind began to imagine the possibilities.

This is when the initial concept of Antonio’s business began. When he arrived in Mexico City, the first thing Antonio did was to go visit the cosmetics company. He interviewed with them to find out how they operated. When he left the cosmetics company he set a goal. “I will make my company the strongest one!” said Antonio. After analyzing the possibilities, he determined that initially it would be easier to sell undergarments than cosmetics.

Ardyss recognizes the importance of doing things right and we are in constant search of excellence in the quality of our products and in dealing with everyone involved in our industry.

At Ardyss we are convinced that “WE CAN BE WHAT WE BELIEVE WE CAN BE.”

Each one of us can improve our lives by being an enthusiastic and creative person who can help shape the world and make it a better place to live. In the process we will be creating our own destiny.

Having made the decision, Antonio began to work. He placed an ad in the newspaper looking for a person who would be his manager. When he interviewed a candidate, she said, “Sir, why don’t you manufacture this brassiere?” Antonio asked,
“What does that brassiere do?” She immediately responds, “It does everything, seriously, it does everything. It makes the breast larger, and it can make them smaller. It makes the breast firm and it corrects the size of them if they are uneven. It does marvels.”

In that moment he is convinced about the benefits of the undergarment and through an assembly manufacturer, on October 8, 1990, Antonio began to produce the Ardyss Professional Reshaping/Sculpting brassiere. Antonio, along with his wife and their two sons began working. “My wife did everything. My wife counted. My wife filled supplies. My wife did everything. In addition, my sons were the ones packing”, says Antonio, with great satisfaction and pride.

However, nothing is easy at the beginning. On November 10, 1991, Antonio’s assembler stopped manufacturing because he decided to go work for a competitor of Ardyss in whom he saw a greater potential. This situation was a determining factor for the future of Ardyss. That was the moment when Antonio Diaz de Leon decided not to depend on anyone else to continue with his plan. Without any experience, only a great desire to learn, he decided to rent an industrial warehouse of 300 square meters on the street of Sabadell, in the metropolitan area of Mexico City. He begins with 8 sewing machines and 500 meters of material. That is where Ardyss begins as a manufacturer and as a commercial company on December 7, 1991.

Through the years, the process of research and development of products has been optimized. Currently we have a team of full time professionals dedicated to maintaining an ongoing program to create new designs and to submit our present product line to a continuous improvement program. Our main objective is to offer our clients a greater quality and confidence. This guarantee of attention, care and productivity is what makes the Ardyss name synonymous with Excellence.
Today, our combined efforts allow us to seek representation in other markets. In addition to Mexico, we have distributors in the U.S., Guatemala, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Spain, Panama and Portugal.

Ardyss has a strong corporate structure and an exceptional compensation plan with one of the best computer systems and an excellent training program. All of this has been designed to help you develop your own business. With our support and your effort and dedication, you can make your dreams and aspirations a reality. Always keep in mind to continue learning for your benefit and for the Great Ardyss Family of which you are a Key Factor.

My Diet Step #1

Okay I cannot go another minute without telling you about the diet I am going to start.  You know the cool thing is you are going to be there with me every step of the way :)   For any bigger than they want to be woman, I will be your guinea pig!! Lucky you!

Just so you know, I am not a fad dieter, and don’t do just every diet that passes by.  I research, look at statistics, read and then, and only then if it makes sense will I give it my all.  I think the only mistake I made was thinking that The Atkins diet was good for you. Here are some of my favorite diets, and actually pretty much the only ones I have ever done.

1.  Herbal Life www.herbalife.com – this was not such a bad diet, good for some not for others.  I don’t have a lot to say about it because it’s been years.  I think the problem I have with it, is you can only go for so long with shakes and pills all day.  But I think it’s a good start or boost for anyone.

2. Fit For Life – www.fitforlifetime.com – Funny I read this book back when I was 19 or so.  I think it’s one of those books that just no matter what most of it works, makes sense and is like duh, everyone needs to read or know this!  Even if you don’t end up following it, it is a TRULY good and amazing book and another one that totally changed my life :)

3. Atkins Diet – Well I read the book and followed it and hated it.  I felt like crap eating all that meat and mayonaise really who are we kidding?  After a week I was weak and not feeling well.  So yes you can and prbably will loose weight on this but really folks my opinion I wouldn’t touch it.

4.  The Zone – www.zonediet.com – I love this diet.  I agree with it and have nothing negative to say about it.  From what I heard Jennifer Aniston has been On or In The Zone since the book came out :)   It’s a good read, and wouldn’t heard reading it and seeing if it’s a good fit for you.

5. 1st Personal Diet – www.1stpersonaldiet.com This folks so far has got to be one of my all time favorites.  I did this diet about 2 years ago, and lost 30 lbs in about 1 1/2 months.  I kept it off for about a year.  The circumstances of why I gained it back are two reasons, 1.  I did NOT do the re-feeding which is the end of the diet as they suggest and say is vitally important and 2) I started a new job with lots of stress and my boss kept buying me yummy food while I sat at my new found desk.  To be honest, I did try to re-start it a few times and I just couldn’t do it, can’t say why.  However out of all the above, this one is my FAVORITE thus far, and let me add as far as loosing weight at a quick rate and remaining healthy :)

Okay now back to the diet I am starting….it is the HCG diet.  A little info is that I was told about his diet from my mother a year ago, she did it and OH MY GOD, she went from a size 9 at 5′2 to size 5/6 in about 2 months and is still at a size 6 as of today 12/02/09.  She loves it and raved, and has been trying to get me on it for that same length of time.  I balked at it only because it was similar to 1st personal diet from everything she told me.  However the injections or now new oral HCG that you take is what makes it all work and stay off for good.  Then my uncle did it, my friend, another friend, another and even my 18-year-old cousin, wow….they all are super skinny and doing GREAT.  Then my old Doctor/Chiropractor did it and now administers it for other and sells it on his site, so I decided THAT’s it!  I personally need to see results, so I am going for it! :) FYI this information on this diet is very old and supposedly the guy who wrote it was assassinated due to the findings on this thing.  So there you have it.  I still need to order it which I will be doing and I promise to give you a DAY BY DAY info on how it goes :) I am so excited!

Here is my old Doctor/Chiropractor that has it, it’s under the tab that says HCG www.drpricedc.com

Dr Kelly Sennholz: Violence, TV and Video Games

“In time for Christmas, I would like to take this opportunity to repost some information about video games and their effects on the brain from Eldon Taylor.  The exploration of our inner selves, including how our brains work to make us “tick,” is truly important research that could change our world.”  ~Dr. Kelly Sennholz

It’s the gift-giving season and most of us have someone on our list that would like a video game or a DVD or a game player of some kind including perhaps membership to a MMORPG (massive multiplayer online role playing game). I would encourage you to think about fulfilling that gift before you do so. Let me provide some reasons why I think it is worth withholding some gifts, especially for young people, but first allow me to set it up with a short history of video games and violent media.

In 1972 the first video entertainment game of kind stormed onto the scene and most of us, who are old enough to remember it, played it–Pong. Two players used video paddles to hit the ball back and forth much like a ping-pong game would be played. In the late ’80’s and early ’90s one-on-one fighting games arrived on the scene. Among them was the game Mortal Combat. This game raised the violence bar. In 1992 the game Wolfenstein was the first major 3D first person shooter and the effect of this game was to place the player in the game fighting, killing and being killed. The realism in Wolfenstein rose to a new level as well with enemies falling and bleeding on the floor. This provoked a revolution in games.

In 1993 the game Doom arrived including much blood and gore and allowing players to hunt and kill each other. As the technical and graphical capability increased, the games became more and more graphic and real. Today games of this nature, such as Soldier of Fortune, “respond realistically to different shots depending on where in the body they are shot, with what weapons and from what distance.” (Anderson 2006)

Okay, most have the wrong idea of who plays games, for the average gamer is not some teenager. No, it’s actually a 35 year-old overweight man who is aggressive, introverted and often depressed according to the Centers for Disease Control. Many also believe that war games honor our veterans and yet the veterans themselves say the opposite. In a conversation recently with radio host Jason Spiess, he pointed out that when he asked veterans on Veterans Day, “How do we honor you?” The nearly unanimous answer was, “Find ways to resolve conflict peacefully.” They went on to point out that war games dishonor their service because they not only tend to glamorize the matter but to distort the reality of it all. Indeed, the proposed new game, Six Days in Fallujah has met with public opposition by veteran groups for precisely these reasons.

Now to some facts I want you to consider. First person shooter games have been linked to an increase in hostile aggressive behavior and a reduction in prosocial behaviors such as charitable giving, volunteer work, and overall helping behaviors. “Video games account for one-third of the average monthly core entertainment spending in the U.S. 45% of the heavy video game players and nearly a third of the avid gamers are in the 6 to 17 year-old age group.” (MediaWise.org 2009)

Further, when men were assigned to play “Grand Theft Auto” their blood pressure increased and they reported more permissive attitudes toward drugs and alcohol and uncooperative behavior. {Ibid}

Adolescents who play more than one hour a day manifest more intense symptoms of ADHD. Game usage has been linked to lower performance or scores on SAT tests and grade point averages. “Those who play MMORPGs report more hours spent playing, worse health, worse sleep quality, and greater interference in ‘real-life socializing and academic work verses those playing other types of video games.” {Ibid}

PET scans show that when young men played a video game in which they moved a tank around through a battlefield to destroy the enemy that the neurotransmitter dopamine was released in the brain. Dopamine is involved with feelings of reward and was released from the men’s brain striatum as the men played. “This and other studies suggest that the release of dopamine and stress hormones may be related not only to ideas of violence and harm, but also to motivation.” (Gentile 2009)

Still other studies employing eMRI have shown us exactly what areas of the brain are involved when playing violent video games. Researchers have found that immediately before firing a weapon, players displayed greater activity in the dorsal anterior cingulated cortex. This area controls cognitive control and planning among other functions. While firing a weapon and shortly afterward, players showed less activity in the rostral anterior cingulated cortex and amygdala. Because interaction between these brain areas is associated with resolving emotional conflict, their decreased functioning could indicate a suppression of the emotional response to witnessing the results of taking violent action.” {Ibid}

This kind of desensitization leads to a systematic desensitization and that leads to a general numbing of empathy to say nothing of the direct correlation with the increase in hostile aggressive behavior. Add this to the television and entertainment that is often consumed and by the time you have a young adult, they have seen over 200,000 commercials and over 30,000 homicides. (Taylor 2009)

The fact is, well over 1000 studies including reports from the National Institutes of Health and the U.S. Surgeon General’s office suggest overwhelmingly that there is a definite causal connection between media violence and aggressive behavior in some. I think of it this way, take young people and put them in simulators designed to teach them to kill without emotion. Show them all the blood and gore and reward them for a successful kill. Add greater and greater rewards to enhance their killing ability. Soon, you have trained killers free of the guilt, the remorse or the nagging conscience. We train pilots in flight simulators and some of our enemies train in flight simulators and carry out their missions as a result–what on earth do we think we are doing to our younger generation?

Okay, I covered much of this in my books “Mind Programming” and “Choices and Illusions,” but then not all of you have read them yet. As such, I did want to remind you of the long-term possible ramifications to satisfying someone’s idea of fun with a violent video game.

I do want to wish all of you a wonderful Holiday Season!

Thanks for the read,

Eldon

Holiday Eating Without the Guilt -- or the Pounds

If you love the five-week holiday festivities from Thanksgiving to New Year’s, but are already stressing about the added stomach fat you’ll have to sweat off come Jan. 1, help is at hand. It’s possible to enjoy holiday eating and make it to 2010 weighing the same as you do today. It’s all about devising a strategy and thinking about holiday food just a little differently. Try this:

Eat before you go. Starving guests are more apt to load up their plates, so have a piece of fruit smeared with peanut butter or a small container of yogurt prior to heading out.

Think ”pick and choose,” not ‘’sample.” Picking and choosing is a great strategy if it involves picking the one dessert or other goodie you love and can’t live without. Instead of sampling all three pies at a holiday dinner, decide which one you really like.

Remember, alcohol is loaded with calories. Start off at a party with seltzer water or sparkling water, then switch to alcoholic beverages.

Take control as hostess. Take advantage of that, prepare or serve [ready-make] broth-based soups that are packed with vegetables as a first course. Switch from buffets to meals served by the course to pace eating. It’s probable you’ll eat less overall that way.

If you love gravy, make it from fat-free broth. Include more casserole dishes — you can increase the vegetables with hardly anyone noticing.

Move, even a little. Squeezing in a little exercise, no matter how hectic the schedule, will help.

Defend your resolve. Even with the best strategies in play, some people fall apart when face-to-face with those holiday hosts and hostesses who encourage you to eat.

You can resist them with a compliment like: “I love your pie, but I am full.”

Eating Greens to Lose Weight

When it comes to fat loss and losing weight there is an overwhelming amount of information. If you’re like most people who want to lose weight you may feel somewhat bewildered and confused by all the diet and nutrition advice given by so many different fat loss experts. The tough part is that much of this advice overlooks the basic physiological premise for weight loss and long-term health – alkalinity!

Our bodies operate within a fine pH equilibrium. If we are too acidic, we invite disease and “fatness” to grow rampant. 2-time Nobel Prize winner, Dr. Linus Pauling, was the first to show to that cancer cannot grow in an alkaline environment. Many years later, though, most people have no idea what being alkaline means.

Being alkaline means not being acidic. The most important bodily tissue – our blood – requires a slightly alkaline pH to operate perfectly. If not, red blood cells begin to die, coagulate, and expel their waste into the blood. Oxygen transport to the cells becomes compromised and the body begins removing dangerous acid out from the blood and storing in our fat cells.

The body’s fat cells hold onto this acid as a protective mechanism since acid in the blood or vital organs can be lethal. Therefore, your ability to burn fat is related to your body’s acid-alkaline balance. You will find it very hard lose fat if you are acidic. It’s simple – your body needs to keep the fat around to hold onto to the acid. Once the acid lessens, the fat will follow.

So when you hear “experts” promoting high protein diets or other similar weight loss gimmicks you need to ask yourself if the foods they promote are acid or alkaline-forming in the body. For instance, all animal products (meat, dairy, eggs) are acid-forming in the body. Most grains and refined sugars are as well. A diet high in these foods can only result in an acidic body.

It has been said that our diet should be 80% alkaline and 20% acidic. However, I’m sure you can see that the Western diet – full of its processed, refined, and high fat foods – is the exact opposite. It’s no wonder that obesity is such a problem in Westernized countries.

So what foods are alkaline-forming?

Fruits and vegetables. The reason for this is that they are abundant in alkalizing minerals such as calcium, potassium, iron, and magnesium while possessing lower concentrations of acidifying properties such as sulfur and nitrogen.

The best sources of alkalinity of all foods are greens. Grasses, green vegetables, and sea vegetables are some examples. A diet rich in green foods will not only help prevent the onset of disease but it will keep you thin.

As you incorporate more green foods into your diet you will become more alkaline – displacing needless acid – and improving your fat loss efforts. Think about it…how many overweight vegans or vegetarians do you know? Obviously being vegetarian doesn’t guarantee weight loss because many of these people can also have atrocious diets. However, their chance of staying thin is far better than someone who eats burgers and other garbage foods.

How to alkalize your body?

Eat for health and you will alkalize your body and lose weight. Here are 4 strategies to help you alkalize your body for optimal fat loss (and health) results:

1. Eat more fruits and vegetables and get plenty of greens. My rule of thumb is to consume at least 1 green juice and/or salad each day.

2. Drink plenty of water. You should drink at least half your body weight (lbs) in ounces each day.

3. Breathe! Take a few minutes each day and focus on deep breathing. Oxygen is alkalizing.

4. Minimize and avoid processed foods, artificial sweeteners, and nutrition-deficient drinks like coffee and sodas.

Did She or Didn't She?

I did it.

I signed up for Weight Watchers three days before Thanksgiving.

Which proves that:

EITHER I am completely desperate to not be carrying the equivalent weight of a preschool toddler the 26.2 miles of the marathon I’m running in February

OR I have truly lost it.

I vote for both.

It’s rally time, friends.  I’m really gonna need your support to unload some of this beloved blubber before I get to the starting line at the 26.2 with Donna Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer.

And lots of you are actually embarking on fitness adventures of your own!  Chris is on board with me.  My new friend Carla signed up last week.  My pal Jackie is now considering a marathon!  Woo Hoo!  Who else is in?  I know it’s the holidays, but think of it:  what better present could you give yourself for the holidays than a healthier YOU?!

Thanks for the encouragement, everybody!  The rubber meets the road tomorrow.  I might really be able to do this!  :)

Demystifying the Health Club

Have you been procrastinating about joining a health club because of the fear-of-the-unknown factor? There’s no doubt that the process can be intimidating to first timers trying to lose unwanted fat—the lingo, the classes, the routine. Arming yourself with a little knowledge about what to expect when you walk through the door can help you find a health club where you’ll fit right in.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR

Facilities are just as likely to provide personal coaching, medical-school-trained personnel and day care, as they are to offer sophisticated workout machinery. Every club has a different setup, so you need to look at your needs and your routine. Is flexibility in workout times most important, or would the latest and greatest classes bolster your motivation? Do you require child care, or is proximity to work a must? Questions like these will let you come up with a short list of what you’re looking for in a health club.

TAKE A TOUR:- Pay careful attention to how well the staff listens to your questions and how concerned they seem to be with improving your physical health.

GET STARTED:-  Take advantage of introductory programs, such as a fitness evaluation and equipment orientation, particularly if you haven’t exercised in a while, or at all. One-on-one time with a trainer can be key to creating a workout routine that you enjoy and will stick with. If you don’t feel like you’re clicking with your trainer, ask to be reassigned.

Health club employees can’t wave a magic wand to transform members from sedentary to taut and toned. But a good club and a caring staff can make you feel right at home and work in tandem with you to help improve your fitness level.  God luck all.

In los angeles, purgatives and Dancing Trim The Pounds.

In LA, a strange combo is abrew. Dieters who have struggled to lose weight los angeles have discovered that mixing two different practices can be effective . The 2 are dancing, and using laxative to lose weight. Don't continue eating if you're feeling hungry. diuretics , however , must be used with caution. they're not designed for weight reduction.
the kind of exercise is less critical. What matters most is the regularity, as any list of tips to lose weight would advise. Diet decreases caloric input. Exercise increases consumption. With these two, weight will be lost. This is correct only when a disciplined regimen is followed.
do not subscribe to trends when trying to shed pounds. One idea is that by treating the depression, you are treating the base cause of eating disorder. Other theories put forward a more direct cause and effect relationship between drug and weight. In severe cases, sickness may follow.
The best practice in L. A. or anywhere is a combination of exercise and diet. Diet means calorie control. Exercise means exerting satisfactorily to burn calories. Together, these 2 will have a much bigger effect than mediciation. you might harm your wellbeing. clients must be careful.
Wellburtin is a useful drug. Diet is also. in fact, any reasonable exercise should be part of a weight reduction program. laxatives have a particular purpose. Wellbutrin is effective when used properly. Keep exercising.

Quick Way to Lose Weight

If you’re like me, you’re probably thinking about all the holiday parties coming up and how to drop a few pounds before the festivities. Thankfully, there are easy things that you can do to encourage weight loss that take very little effort. (Seriously!)

What seems like another lifetime ago, I used to work at a Sports Supplement company where I had access to some of the best trainers around. These people took being in shape to a whole different level. Not only did this mean that they knew about effective work out routines and dieting techniques, but it also meant that they knew about little “tricks” to get the body to release extra weight.

Of course, we all know that there are those quick weight loss tricks that are unsafe, but there’s ALSO weight loss tricks that are safe, healthy and effective. In fact, one of them is so easy that you won’t even have to leave your home or buy anything extra to start doing it NOW and seeing the results.

All you have to do is…DRINK MORE WATER.

Here are some interesting facts about water consumption from Diagnose Me dot com:

  • 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (This likely applies to half the world population)
  • Even MILD dehydration will slow down ones metabolism as much as 3%.
  • One glass of water shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.
  • Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.
  • Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day (half of that coming from food and drinks other than plain water) could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.
  • A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.
  • Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

Pretty amazing, huh? Obviously water is vital to our overall health, but how many times have you went almost an entire day without so much as a sip of water and then drink excessively after feeling a strong sense of thirst? If so, you need to revise your approach to water consumption.

When you first start drinking the water that your body needs, you might experience increased urination as your body is used to utilizing whatever little moisture it receives to flush out toxins. However, keep drinking the 8 to 10 glasses of water you should be each day and before long you will notice a striking change in the way you look and feel. You might notice your skin looking brighter and clearer and your muscle tone really starting to come through.

As you continue to drink the appropriate amount of water, your body will start to trust that more is coming so it will get rid of any water retention weight in your body. This will encourage weight to drop from problem areas such as the hips, ankles, stomach and thighs.

And don’t think for even a second that you can drink more soda or other sugary beverages and get the same effect. These things come with extra calories, chemicals and even caffeine that your body doesn’t need. Also, stop drinking larger quantities of water about 3 hours before bed as not to put pressure on the inner organs.

I can’t wait to hear about your results! Please post below!

A True Warrior In Spite of Life's Difficulties: Jess LaRue

I want to introduce you to a wonderful friend of mine, Jess LaRue.  You may have seen her inspiring transformation on published author and trainer Jeff Kuh’s site… Wet Wolf Training.  (She is halfway down the page on his before and after pics.)  Jess is a true warrior.  Through the last year or so, she has struggled through some extremely painful situations in life… situations that we all hope to never go through.  Yet, Jess never gave up!  She relies on her faith in God as well as staying committed and true to self.

Throughout Jess’ young adult life, she stayed fit and healthy.  She exercised and didn’t worry too much about her weight even after having her children.  She even went to school to be a personal trainer.  Then that dreadful age hit where the metabolism starts slowing —> 35!  Jess began to put on weight even though she worked a job where running most days for 8 hours filling orders was the protocol.  From around 1997 through 2005, Jess’ weight rose to 205 pounds on a 5 foot 9 inch frame from her normal 150 lbs.  She felt guilty and continually apologized to her family.  The stress over her weight was unbearable, and she would come home from work and cry most days.

Jess began exercising a lot more than she use to.  Several days a week, she would head to the gym and worked out for 3 hours a day… yet no results!  She was desperate and began researching for help.  She started at www.bodybuilding.com and found a support group for women and mothers (this is where I met Jess).  She ordered some training and nutrition books to help her get started on the right path.  As Jess quoted, “Things were starting to come together and God was answering prayers.”  She lost 25 pounds!

So, Jess was ecstatic that she was losing weight, BUT one day it just stopped.  She was stuck at 180 pounds and could not lose anymore.  She visited her doctor who told her to lower her calories.  Hey!  She was already on a low calorie diet taking in approximately 900-1,000 calories per day!  How much more could she cut?  I remember talking with Jess about this as I was afraid she was not losing weight because her body was holding onto everything it could being in starvation mode.  She was having headaches and dizzy spells.  All her friends on the support group were concerned for her.  Then one day, she seemed to have just disappeared.

A few months later, Jess and I reunited.  She showed me her transformation pictures.  In just four (4) short months, she lost nearly 40 pounds!!  When I saw the pictures, I was flabbergasted!  I remember her being stuck for that last year I knew her at 180 pounds not making any progress… and now she was taking 10 pounds off per month!  That was just AMAZING to me!  So, I asked her how she did it.  She was following Jeff Kuh (Wet Wolf) on www.figureathlete.com.  Wet Wolf had put a challenge out and given free training and nutrition information to its readers/subscribers.  Jess took on the challenge, and there was no return!  She made an awesome transformation with only working out for 1.5 hours for a few days per week in the gym.  Her transformation was so inspiring that Wet Wolf now has her displayed on his website.  Great going, Jess!

So, what helped Jess to get out of the “stuck” mode and into the “fat burning” zone?  First, she admitted to herself that she needed to do something about her body to live a healthier and more fit life.  Second, she did research to find help.  Also, her husband cut out buying junk food and took on a healthier diet himself, so that meant NO JUNK FOOD… only healthy foods.  That relieved any temptations in the house.  She even stopped eating fast foods.  Finally, she put the metal to the pedal and just DID IT!

Currently, Jess has a goal to compete in figure bodybuilding in June 2010.  She is packing on some muscle after losing all the body fat she needed.  She even has a goal to be stronger and bench 225 pounds by March!!  Woohoo!!! And, may I say that Jess is 47!  You go, my friend!!!!!!!!

If you’re interested in doing Wet Wolf’s workouts, I’ve included them here in journal format.  Though I did add a few extra exercises for abs as well as cardio.  Just remember that you MUST eat clean 90 percent of the time!

Day 3 Of Losing It - Scale Obsessed

So I am obsessed with the scale I get on it every time I go in the bathroom thinking maybe I have lost a significant amount of weight since the last time. I know, wishful thinking. It is recommended that you only check your weight about once a week to see the difference. So I will check and document my weight loss next week.

The diet has been going okay so far. I have been watching what I eat and trying to do some Oxycise reps when I can squeeze them in. It has been a little tough because I have given into the temptation of the dreaded Halloween candy. Urgh!!!

Healthy Lifestyle

Dr Kelly Sennholz: 3 Ways to Avoid Weekend Overindulgences

Studies have shown that people eat approx 115 calories more on the weekend than during the week. In addition, if you eat only 50 to 100 extra calories a day, you will gain 5 to 10 pounds a year. So you can see why taking control of your weekends can be the key to healthy living.

What things will help with weekend binging?

 1.  Start to identify your weak points here and take action. If you tend to ‘gorge’ during social events, plan ahead so that doesn’t happen. Not every evening out should be an opportunity to go off track.

 2.  Notice alcohol calories and keep it in check. One way to do this is to have one drink and then alternate with calorie free beverages. Add a lime for festivity and enjoy without over indulging.

3.  Lastly, the weekends are really the time to have fun by increasing your activity. Play ball!! Go on a hike. Play with kids. Don’t make television your only weekend activity.

I am sure with a little attention, you can start to identify your “weekend Achilles heel.”  Send me your weekend ideas; I am sure you have some great ones!

To your health,

Dr. Sennholz

Day 18 of my hCG Diet: Losing Weight, Slowly, but Surely....

Day 18- November 3, 2009
Weigh in- 173

Today marks the 18th day of my hCG diet. Last week I went up and down in terms of my weight because of starting my menstrual cycle and going out to dinner for my birthday. Otherwise, I’m doing great!

I’ve finally broken through my addiction to sugar and high fat foods. It feels great putting healthy, nutritious foods into my body.

As I make dinners, I’m creating new recipes that will hopefully allow people to really enjoy their meals even through the diet restrictions.

I tested for large ketone level this morning. That’s always encouraging to see. I’ll post measurements next week as I lose more weight.

Hey there, remember me?

I know it’s been absolutely forever since I’ve posted on here.  I know I keep saying I’ll keep up with it better.  I try, but then ….. same old song and dance I guess.

Truth of the matter is, I’m stuck here.  Sitting here at this plateau.  Waiting for a break through.  Getting discouraged.  Trying not to.  Trying to hang on.   Holding by a thread.

I broke my foot a few weeks ago.  It was a real blow to this whole thing.  I’ve been working out still, doing upper body with my weights and getting cardio in with the rowing machine and stationary bike.  Eating has been … eh… ok.  I’ve done ok for the most part.  I’ve had a few cheat days, more than I’d like to count. … but overall, just ok.

I know I could break through if I would just do what I did in the beginning.  I know it would happen.  I have got to find a way to get my motivation back.  I need the drive that I had when I first started.  Gotta find it somehow.

I’m just tired of these injuries setting me back.  I hurt my shoulder probably about 2-3 months ago and it’s not much better.  I’ve had steroid injections and everything, but it’s just still hurting.  Probably a result of over training and trying to do too much before I’m ready.  On the one hand, I need to be more aware of my limitations, but on the other hand, I need something to push me harder.  It’s just such a hard place to be in.

Plus, lately when I look in the mirror, I still see the old 300 pound me looking back at me.  I know I’ve mentioned it before, but she’s plaguing me more lately.  It’s like she’s hanging around, just waiting to be back in my life….to be me again.  I feel haunted by her somehow.  There’s this nagging voice in my head telling me that she’ll be back…..that I was just born to be fat.  I hate her.  I hate everything I was when I was her.  I was so weak…so depressed….so out of control of my own actions.  But there she is, every morning, looking at me.

Sure, it would be easy to just give in…give up, eat what I want, not go to the gym, not have this stupid pain from over doing it.  But what would that mean?  It would mean me giving up on myself.  It would mean not giving myself a chance to be the best person I can be.  It would mean ultimately a shorter life most likely….medications for blood pressure possibly…type two diabetes possibly….everything I don’t want.  Easy is never better.  Taking the easy way out is just exactly that….taking an out.  It’s something I can never do.  So somehow I have to break through this….make my way out….find some motivation….do something….

A Girl’s Quick Guide to Halloween Candy

“Last year, I ate my son’s entire bucket of Halloween candy,” Stacey confessed. I was so embarrassed that I went out at 2 a.m. to buy an assorted mixture to replace it, so that my son wouldn’t find out that his mom is a pig,” she continued during a recent session.

“What did you eat?” I asked, curious about what her favorite candy might be.

“I don’t even know. I ate it so quickly that I didn’t even enjoy it,” she said.

Stacey’s story is a common one. Women deprive themselves of little indulgences and, like a bat out of hell, they can gobble up a bag of candy in a matter of minutes.

So, to help you through the next few days (and the rest of your life), when little pleasures can turn into huge regrets, I’ve put together this little guide to help save little Johnnie’s candy collection (and your waist).

End Game

How do you want to feel at the end of the day when you lie down in bed? Stuffed? Sad? Disappointed? Like a failure?

I didn’t think so. So, create a different plan. It really is that simple.

If you want to feel in control, successful, fulfilled, and grateful for a wonderful and fun holiday, then state that has your intention. You get to choose how you feel, so decide on the feeling.

End games are like little playbooks for the soul. They help align goals with actions. After creating your end game, focus on how it will feel to have achieved your intention. Carry that feeling with you throughout the day. Ask yourself, how does a woman who is in control and successful act? Trust me, it will make a bag of candy corn extremely unappealing.

Plan

When you have your end game, you must then create your plan. The goal is not for you to deprive yourself of treats. The goal is for you to strike a balance between overindulgence and deprivation.

Planning should occur on two levels. First, plan what obstacles you may run into. Maybe you are most likely to “lose control” between the hours of eight and ten at night or that you go unconscious at the neighborhood Halloween party and eat three times more than you normally would. Just having this awareness will help you help yourself. Plan on staying mindful. Have a plan for dealing with your unique challenges (and trust me, we all have them).

The second part of planning deals with food itself. You can still partake in the festivities, but your secret weapon to a happy ending is to plan your treat. Don’t mindlessly start tearing open candy wrappers without thinking about what you really want to consume.

Choose your favorite candy, and then continue this exercise.

Upgrade

I encourage clients to upgrade their foods when possible. An example upgrade is trading in the super sweet milk chocolate for a high quality dark chocolate. However, if you are craving a Reese’s cup, then don’t try to substitute it with a sugar-free, fat free version (if there is such a thing). Eat the real thing.

Your body deserves the best fuel available, so don’t settle for the cheap grade.

Sit down

Once you have chosen your treat, sit down. You are less likely to overeat when sitting down, and you will definitely enjoy it much more.

Studies have shown that people who eat standing up, eat far more food with less satisfaction. So, grab a chair, and continue.

Stay Mindful

So, you have your treat, a chair, and you are ready to eat? Not so fast. The key to developing a pleasurable relationship with food is to stay mindful when eating it.

To stay present, notice the texture, taste, aroma, and color of your little indulgence. With each bite, notice how the tastes change. At what point does it stop tasting as good?

This exercise alone has brought clients huge epiphanies. “I don’t even like crème filled donuts,” one client confessed after eating one mindfully. “They are way too sweet,” she added.

I have had the same revelations when it comes to food. When you are aware of, not only the way foods impact the senses, but how it feels in your body, you will gradually discover that you choose not to eat certain things. For example, I cut back on dairy and sugar because I don’t like the way it makes me feel. Do I feel deprived? No, not at all. I feel great, actually! It has nothing to do with deprivation and everything to do with self-love (more on this later!).

Mindful eating is a necessary component of successful weight programs, so start paying attention to your food, even the bite-sized Halloween candy.

Enjoy

Guilt is NOT allowed in my approach to weight loss. In my opinion, guilt is a useless emotion that will have you waist deep in the freezer looking for the Ben & Jerry’s.

In this country, especially, food has been turned into this evil enemy. So, even though human nature is to enjoy food, many people find themselves in love/hate affair with their meals. No more. I draw the line here. Food is to be enjoyed. Period.

If you overeat, guilt does not make the experience go away, so learn from it and move on!

Small Victory

Being able to enjoy your holidays without deprivation is a huge personal victory. These small accomplishments add up over time. To transform your body does not mean that you must give up the foods you enjoy. It means that you must be kind to yourself by finding that sweet balance where you can enjoy a piece of chocolate AND create the body you deserve.

Happy Halloween. I would love to hear how this little guide helps you through this sugar season.
