A Girl’s Quick Guide to Halloween Candy

“Last year, I ate my son’s entire bucket of Halloween candy,” Stacey confessed. I was so embarrassed that I went out at 2 a.m. to buy an assorted mixture to replace it, so that my son wouldn’t find out that his mom is a pig,” she continued during a recent session.

“What did you eat?” I asked, curious about what her favorite candy might be.

“I don’t even know. I ate it so quickly that I didn’t even enjoy it,” she said.

Stacey’s story is a common one. Women deprive themselves of little indulgences and, like a bat out of hell, they can gobble up a bag of candy in a matter of minutes.

So, to help you through the next few days (and the rest of your life), when little pleasures can turn into huge regrets, I’ve put together this little guide to help save little Johnnie’s candy collection (and your waist).

End Game

How do you want to feel at the end of the day when you lie down in bed? Stuffed? Sad? Disappointed? Like a failure?

I didn’t think so. So, create a different plan. It really is that simple.

If you want to feel in control, successful, fulfilled, and grateful for a wonderful and fun holiday, then state that has your intention. You get to choose how you feel, so decide on the feeling.

End games are like little playbooks for the soul. They help align goals with actions. After creating your end game, focus on how it will feel to have achieved your intention. Carry that feeling with you throughout the day. Ask yourself, how does a woman who is in control and successful act? Trust me, it will make a bag of candy corn extremely unappealing.

Plan

When you have your end game, you must then create your plan. The goal is not for you to deprive yourself of treats. The goal is for you to strike a balance between overindulgence and deprivation.

Planning should occur on two levels. First, plan what obstacles you may run into. Maybe you are most likely to “lose control” between the hours of eight and ten at night or that you go unconscious at the neighborhood Halloween party and eat three times more than you normally would. Just having this awareness will help you help yourself. Plan on staying mindful. Have a plan for dealing with your unique challenges (and trust me, we all have them).

The second part of planning deals with food itself. You can still partake in the festivities, but your secret weapon to a happy ending is to plan your treat. Don’t mindlessly start tearing open candy wrappers without thinking about what you really want to consume.

Choose your favorite candy, and then continue this exercise.

Upgrade

I encourage clients to upgrade their foods when possible. An example upgrade is trading in the super sweet milk chocolate for a high quality dark chocolate. However, if you are craving a Reese’s cup, then don’t try to substitute it with a sugar-free, fat free version (if there is such a thing). Eat the real thing.

Your body deserves the best fuel available, so don’t settle for the cheap grade.

Sit down

Once you have chosen your treat, sit down. You are less likely to overeat when sitting down, and you will definitely enjoy it much more.

Studies have shown that people who eat standing up, eat far more food with less satisfaction. So, grab a chair, and continue.

Stay Mindful

So, you have your treat, a chair, and you are ready to eat? Not so fast. The key to developing a pleasurable relationship with food is to stay mindful when eating it.

To stay present, notice the texture, taste, aroma, and color of your little indulgence. With each bite, notice how the tastes change. At what point does it stop tasting as good?

This exercise alone has brought clients huge epiphanies. “I don’t even like crème filled donuts,” one client confessed after eating one mindfully. “They are way too sweet,” she added.

I have had the same revelations when it comes to food. When you are aware of, not only the way foods impact the senses, but how it feels in your body, you will gradually discover that you choose not to eat certain things. For example, I cut back on dairy and sugar because I don’t like the way it makes me feel. Do I feel deprived? No, not at all. I feel great, actually! It has nothing to do with deprivation and everything to do with self-love (more on this later!).

Mindful eating is a necessary component of successful weight programs, so start paying attention to your food, even the bite-sized Halloween candy.

Enjoy

Guilt is NOT allowed in my approach to weight loss. In my opinion, guilt is a useless emotion that will have you waist deep in the freezer looking for the Ben & Jerry’s.

In this country, especially, food has been turned into this evil enemy. So, even though human nature is to enjoy food, many people find themselves in love/hate affair with their meals. No more. I draw the line here. Food is to be enjoyed. Period.

If you overeat, guilt does not make the experience go away, so learn from it and move on!

Small Victory

Being able to enjoy your holidays without deprivation is a huge personal victory. These small accomplishments add up over time. To transform your body does not mean that you must give up the foods you enjoy. It means that you must be kind to yourself by finding that sweet balance where you can enjoy a piece of chocolate AND create the body you deserve.

Happy Halloween. I would love to hear how this little guide helps you through this sugar season.

Welcome to "My Weigh Back" Blog

Today is my first official blog.  I told Linda, who in my mind now I am calling both my emotional and physical guide, that I never had an incentive offered to me that was strong enough to make me lose all of this weight that I have gathered around me. Well…when she asked if I would be interested in doing a blog I jumped at the chance because I think some (and I am hoping all) of you will be my incentive. I am basically a very nurturing person and if sharing my struggles and triumphs with you help you with yours than that is a huge incentive for me. I finally found what will motivate me! I, like probably most of you, have been through the wringer with a variety of diets from get thin quickly protein drinks to even carting a whole watermelon to a party since that was all I was supposed to eat the day before I was supposed to eat only chicken breasts. There is a country  song out there by Dierks Bentley:  “I Knew What I Was Feeling…But What Was IThinking!”  I am a cynical, hard to trust, suspicious of someone trying to rip me off type of gal and I have been into iChange with Linda for the past six weeks, have lost 21 lbs and most importantly I am feeling clearer in my thinking, more at peace with myself and my digestive system at last is not arguing with me in the most inopportune moments. I love the ease of the iChange Web site where I post my food daily. When I check in there is usually a short video or a message from Linda that is very useful. Hardly an hour goes by after I post a question (ask Linda…I am a real question asker) that Linda gets back to me with clear and concise information. Stay tuned and I will share with you my journey of shedding my outside skin as I wait for the butterfly to emerge. (Okay…corny but this is my first post so give me a break here!)

WIRED TO WIN!

A man loses 150 lb and in record time becomes a top fitness consultant…
Single father to a special needs child, divorce survivor, death of his father and sister, and how a man completely changed his life and beat
the odds.
“SIR, CAN YOU PLEASE MOVE? YOU ARE TOO FAT TO SIT HERE.”

How does a man lose 150 lb. keep it off, and in record time become a top Fitness Consultant?

Marco’s new book “Starving to be Fat” chronicles the permanent weight loss of Marco Girgenti. A transformation so powerful that it caught the attention of the producer’s of the Oprah Winfrey Show. About 2% of people that lose weight actually manage to keep it off; Marco has done it for nearly a decade. How did he do it? On a plane to New York, Marco could not get the seat belt around his stomach, and when the lady beside him turned and said: “sir, can you please move? You are too fat to sit here,” Marco all too painfully knew that she was right, and that it was time to make massive changes. Hear the story of a survivor. A failed marriage, caring single-handedly for his special needs son, the death of his father and sister, and of course; how he beat the fat that threatened his very life. From throwing up all over himself in full view of other people on
his first day at a gym, to an epic battle with low self-esteem and how a former fat guy wound up in a relationship with a fitness model, “Starving to be Fat”, taps into everything an overweight person is feeling as only the experience of someone who has lived it can, and arms you with the weaponry needed to win back control of your life.

Recently, with no systems training or knowledge of a company’s workings, as a manager, he stepped in and invested in his staff, empowering and motivating them. He treated them as “people”, not subordinates. In the shortest business month of the year, and with the country neck deep in recession, Marco and his team shattered a record and obliterated their quota.

Operation "GET THIN"

Having bought skinny jeans sounds great, but with a low waist line of 36, that changes everything. BTW, I weigh 180 lbs and I am at 5′4 1/2 at height. Starting tomorrow, I would start jogging outside our place for around 30-60 minutes 3-4x a week. I would keep track of my time by updating it here in wordpress.

What inspired me to do this is because of an article I read in a salon. a guy whose a little bit shorter than shaq but wayyy fat. His life changed when he dedicated 3-4x a week running 70 minutes. Of course this includes diet. I already lost my fight with going to gym, and cutting down on chocolates, but that doesn’t mean I will not try. This is my hope.

For all those who has the same situation as me. feel free to do the same thing as me. JOGGING AND DIET.
This will change our lives for a better.

Regain Your Health by Losing Weight

Are you one of the two thirds of the American population that is overweight or obese? If so, if you haven’t already experienced them, health problems are right around the corner.

Regain Your Health by Losing Weight
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Doug_Weightsman]Doug Weightsman

Are you one of the two thirds of the American population that is overweight or obese? If so, if you haven’t already experienced them, health problems are right around the corner. You need to seriously take a look at losing weight so that you can regain as much control of your health as is possible.

It is staggering the number of diseases that are likely caused by being overweight or obese. Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, osteoarthritis, stroke and even some cancers are more prevalent in those individuals with weight issues. The problem has become so serious that some of these medical conditions are now appearing in childhood when before they only existed in middle age adults.

The reality is that you do not have to accept that being overweight or obese is your fate. Even if you grew up in a family that had poor eating habits that contributed to your obesity you can change your habits, lose weight and regain your health. It is a matter of education and implementation that will enable you to eat better and in return, lose weight.

You will actually have to buck the mainstream of American society if you want to get healthy. The reality is that there is a fast food restaurant on every corner in most cities in this country. You really may not know of any other way to eat but to buy your food already prepared for you. Until you learn how to eat healthy, which means cooking for yourself, you will be fighting a losing battle.

The two components to losing weight and staying healthy consist of 1) eating healthy foods and 2) exercising moderately. Nothing else matters in all the chatter, advertisement and bombardment of food in our society. Concentrate on learning what a healthy diet consists of and what a moderate exercise program consists of, and implement these two into your lifestyle. With time you will lose the weight you want and regain their health you thought you had lost forever.
